On the menu do "System Settings">"Packages" and check "Development Tools" and "Kernel Development". I would also suggest that you upgrade to the stock 2.4.19 kernel if you haven't already by following my instructions in this thread:
http://forum.fuckmicrosoft.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=001208&p=2 (http://forum.fuckmicrosoft.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=001208&p=2)
The instructions are in a message from me about half way or 3/4 the way down the above link. This will give you optimal performance in VMware. Also, if you do not upgrade the kernel you will have to at least get a patch to prevent a VMware error that most certainly will happen when you close a VMware session. I can give you the link to the patch but I highly recommend the kernel upgrade. And it is important that you use the stock kernel from kernel.org and not a kernel built by RedHat (they've added some patches that cause problems with a few things).
