what would probably be the best "desktop linux" ive decided to just buy a cd actuallly my girlfriend told me to that she hated me being home on the computer all the time
when i get the new os ill be sure to spend much more time with her

If you are going to go out and buy the Distro i would recommend SuSE 8.1 or Red Hat 8. Both are really good with the deskpart support and the one really big diffrence ihave noticed is that Red Hat likes to use Gnome as it's default GUI while SuSE usally goes with KDE. I think they are both equal in the desktop part though so it will be up to personal oppenion

Actually RedHat is from mars, Mandrake is from RedHat.

If you're a newbie and want a great desktop distro get Debian or Gentoo, both are very easy to install.

Better yet, you could use this (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/).

X11 that site sucks it has windows xp version 8.2 why not 9.0?? And what about RH Windows 8.0??

No and it sucks it's just 8.2 with the Sims
