Whe I try to install linux in vmware I put the CDROM in and load the virtual machine but the install program quits. I've also tried loading in vmware from an exising partition but I get an error message. Is there any waye I can get mandrake linux 9 running in vmware.

What operating system is your "host" operating system (the one the you have VMware running under)? Hopefully not windows, if it is I am sure it is a Windows problem and not a Mandrake problem. Having said that, if you are referring to the new Mandrake 9.1 beta then then you may be in for an adventure and it is likely a Mandrake problem. I've heard that 100% of the people have had installer problems no matter where you try and install it. I have installed many distros under VMware without any problem (but I am also using Linux as the "host" operating system).
And of course, it could quite possibly be a bad CD.

Windows XP is the host operating system.

If XP is your host OS I can't be of much help. I know in the past I have seen reports on VMware's web site that Windows has problems with certain OS disks (I was thinking it was Solaris and not Linux though). I personally would use Linux as the host and Windows as the guest OS but that's just me. Search the VMware news server.
