Whats the best server distro for a n00b out there
ive messed with mandrake a lil bit but didnt really like the interface
-
Server? Red-Hat, Debian (or it's friendlier brother, Librabet), Gentoo, or you could try Trustix (I never did, but it might be good. It sure sounds like it).

thanx bub
I hope you guys are ready for me cause unless i have someone to explain or basically show me i cant do it im one of them not so book smart but if you show me once ill be able to do it
-
By the way, Trustix doesn't come with X (that's what makes Linux have a GUI).
-
For a n00b the best server OS would most definitely be RedHat.
-
Red Hat or Mandrake, and Mandrake is almost the same as redhat. I recommend Red Hat.
-
i'd say red hat too, because many of the people on this board use it for such. I don't have a server and i use mandrake but i think mandrake is geared toward desktop use, ipso facto, i would agree with these guys when they say red hat.
Many people on other boards say clackware is the way to go, or FreeBSD, however they are not so mainstream or so user friendly (again i am speaking totally out of hand having had no experience of slack and not any real experience of FreeBSD), so there it is, we're back to red hat.
red hat is also one of the most easy distros to get and one of the ones most people will have already used (so more people to ask if you get in trouble).
