I just had a thought. There have been lots of rumours lately about Apple leaving the PPC show for x86, AMD to be precise. Personally, I think that would be a great disappointment for all of us, Apple and AMD included.

Maybe the high end system's will use the ibm cpu's and the iMacs will use the amd cpu's.

but that would be two completely different architectures. wouldnt that be hell on software developers?? they would have to write not one, but two versions of their software for the mac platform, i dont know.....

If the Apple people were to work with AMD it would certainly not be something like x86 but something new. Are there alternatives to CISC and RISC?

What about AMD's 64 bit hammer stuff? IT has x86 compatibility but it's not just a souped up x86 chip.
