How many of you have that rare, sought-after goodie, the G4 Cube? If you don't, go visit CubeOwner (http://www.cubeowner.com)'s forums, they have loads of 'em for sale.

If you do have one, tell us all about it. I'd love to get a Cube..

I'd love a cube but just for looks and bragging rights. The comp. itself isn't expandable enough and a little too slow for my tastes. Awsome cooling system though..   (http://smile.gif)

It'd be a great OS X desktop machine. Good video card and a 450MHz G4.

Hmm, don't take me wrong guys but I never really liked this Bauhaus philosophy behind the design of the Cube. Then again, it's all a matter of taste.    :D

Man, how do you KNOW that?    (http://smile.gif)   I'm sure I probably mentioned it in a message somewhere, but . . . still.  Wow.

Yes, the Cube is a sexy little thing.  But it's getting a bit slow now, as it ages.  It's excellent if you run OS 9, but for OS X, it shows its age.  I've upgraded it to a GeForce 2 MX (sadly, that's an UPGRADE for this machine), boosted the RAM to just over 1 GB, and upgraded the drive to that 7200 rpm Seagate 80 GB that has the liquid bearings (furthering the utter silence of the machine).

You can buy processor upgrades for it, though, but for me, I don't think it's worth it.  I already kind of hurt my resale value by missing the deadline to buy extended AppleCare, but then again, I'm not really planning to sell it anytime soon.

But if you can get one for a good price, and perhaps if you're willing to spring for the processor upgrade, you'll have yourself a VERY usable machine for a while to come.

Its on www.thepublicinternet.org (http://www.thepublicinternet.org)
" We admit it: We're Macintosh fanatics. The kind that scour eBay to find the original Macintosh 128k in the best condition, the kind who guard our G4 Cube zealously, in the vain hope that one day it'll truly become a collector's item. "

Hm, I can't remember if the G4 Cube has a vertically-mounted HD or not. Does it? And if yes, does that impact the performance/life of the drive?
