i don't think there's much to this.
shares are up so he sells. Also, as the thing says, it's for share diversification. also the more he sells, the less of a monopolist he seems.
Plus, even if Microsoft survives till gates retires, their share price will have fallen quite a bit by then.
Even if the masses do not see Microsoft are going to slowly tip over the precipice, i think gates has further sight with regard to his own money than many around him.
however as i say, in this case i think there's not much in it.

i, too, think there is little to this
i am no market ANALyst, but it will be funny if everyone freaks out and sells off

it's actually a common trick for big CEOs to do stuff like this.
if you sell millions of shares, the stock goes down and so stupid people who don't know how to hold sell off their shares. at that point the stock has gone down significantly then the big hot shot buys back all his shares at a lower price and gains tons of money. it only works when they sell in HUGE ammounts though.

Woulden't this be very dangerous for the company's survivial or long term stock price? There is also a chance that Bill will someday do one of those Enrony things. You know, where you sell off all your stocks just before they crash? That is what happened at Enron right? F0ck, I never understood Enron for a moment and I STILL don't understand them.
-
How enronic.
Why in the hell would he even care? He has so much money... what in the hell do you do with that kind of money? Why do you need more of it? I don't understand it.
