Grrrrrrrr.... I agree... especially the last line.

I don't like the music store, I don't like it one bit. .acc files are specific to one computer (im sure a crack will apear) but  still.

The other fetures are nice, but a mixed blessing. For instance the streaming from other peoples playlist thrugh Randevous is nice, but the inability to use the feture to actually copy the music to your list is disabled. In the help file it suggests burning a CD or transfering via iPod.

But it's an obvious ploy to limit intercomputer P2P sharing. It's not like I can't log into folks servers around here and take what I wan't, but still this feature disturbes me.

No no no no no no... I don't like this one bit. Im switching to Linux if shit like this keeps up. I used to like it when Apple were rebels saying "Rip. Mix. Burn." Not saying pay pay pay.

Fuck this shit.

Well, on the bright side, it's not like their FORCING you to pay, or preventing you from sharing entirely. I mean it's not like there aren't other means available. I just don't like this slant...... yet, I have faith still... I hope Apple won't stray too far from the path.

I bought a few songs...

You can add to playlists and burn the songs - an unlimited amount of times.
The songs are on the computer, and in your library.
The .aac files are specific to *3* computers. You can go re-download them on 2 other computers are no extra cost.

I don't really have a problem with anything other than the 3 computer limit. It's a reasonable # but still...it's there.

So it's Pay. Mix. Burn. or Rip. Mix. Burn. Your option.

If they required you to rip files into DRM aac files, that would piss me off a whole lot. As long as I am free to rip into non-protected files, and burn as much as I want, I'm happy.

Yeah, it does sound like something MS would do. (Think DRM'ed music service "msnMedia" or some such, with PC-specific wma files only)  It also suxxors to see that if your computer dies and you lose your music, it's tough shit for you!

H A N D C U F F W A R E (let's hope we see no more of this from Apple, god forbid they start using DRM chipsets or something)

I can't judge the Music Store feature since it's not available to any country other than the US. How's that for Apple's support?

I can say one thing with absolute certainty though. I hate the fact that Apple has released a proprietary format like *.aac. If this tactic continues then I'll propably load Linux on my iBook as well.

Not quite...if your computer dies, then you log on with your Apple ID, and in iTunes go to Advanced > "Search for purchased music" and it will re-download all of the songs for you. You do the same if you get disconnected during a download, etc.

Well, now that I have calmed down a bit...

I don't think it's compleat fuckware... namely cuz I now know how to get around the 3 computer limitthing and not have the tough shit thingy  :D

Basically, once you got your music, burn it to CD, then rip that same CD back to MP3, oh happy day!

So: Pay. Mix. Burn. then Rip. Mix. Burn...

Well you don't really need to do that. If you can play an audio file they can't stop you from recording it. You just play the file and use something to record your machine's audio output. An even better solution is to not use Apple's shitty service.

I actually read somewhere, I think there is a link in apple's hot news, that if you burn it then rerip it into MP3 it sounds like shit, sort of like macrovision for dvd's.

Whatever, I'm not pissed, as long as I can burn it to a cd, I'm happy.  But I like having a real cd, with cd quality, non compressed music.  I will most likely end up finding music on there then finding it in a store or on an online music store.  We shall see.  I will probably buy one album to help Apple's statistics.

Why not just have us download mp3s? Isn't the Music Store supposed to work with the iPod anyway?

Apple isnt going the wrong direction, they are just trying to compete with other Music Store Services.
Like someone pointed out, atleast they didnt void using mp3s and shit like Microsofts Palladium thing.

I actually like the service. Even tho im never going to buy a single AAC in my life =)

The iPod 1.3 update for the older iPods (which the newer iPods already have) give them AAC support.

What's this then?

EDIT:
That's really odd.

I guess I'll have to find a spare Mac, download a song, and trash the hard drive.

I've already had a download get cut off. The search for purchased music thing fixed it.

Personally I'm pretty happy with the way apple did this.  I think they balanced the DRM factor pretty well.  I mean not one record company would have signed up for this if they didn't have some sort of "protection".  I've bought a few songs and burned them to cd and re-imported them and they sound fine, and I can now do what I want with them and put them on as many computers as I feel like.  Overall I think they did and alright job, far better then any other service like this.

Better them backup disks/hard drives/tapes ready to go. I'd keep a linux box in the closet to keep a copy of your tunes on if I used this service.  :D

i like apples Music Store. they did what the studios couldnt, they offer music downloads cheap and legal, and with no fuss. sucks that it is in aac, but i can live with that. burn the cd, then rip it to whatever computer i wish in mp3. and its not like this will destroy p2p networks either. im not a huge supporter of p2p, but i do use it. and in fact, becuase of p2p, i have actually bought more cds. anyways. i am not too worried about losing my music after i buy it, most of it is backed up in hardcopy form in my cd cases, and seriousely, when was the last time you had a mac completely die? i have never had that happen, save one time, on my first g4, it just stopped working. turns out, the power supply wasnt connected (roommate playing a joke i think    )
i will probably get into this music store, and actually purhcase my music there, instead of taking a trip to "gasp" tower records or something. well, as soon as they start carrying Dara, Aphrodite, Andy C, ST Files, Tech Itch, blah blah, oh yeah, and DJ Marky. cant forget DJ Marky  (http://smile.gif)  then i will def be on it. most of the time i cant even find their stuff in this god forsaken city. it could save me 3.5 hours of driving to san francisco to be able to download it from apple. yay
