wow... why doesn't someone take a cue from the Linux handheld UIs and make the desktop UIs more attractive?

How is that? I personally find KDE very good looking with the Keramik style and Crystal Icons (which is default). See here (http://www.kde.org/screenshots/images/3.1/fullsize/3.png).

Exactly, add TrueType fonts with anti-aliasing and it doesnt get much better looking, in fact my boss on seeing the desktop for the first time thought I was running XPee :D

I've shown some windoids my computer and they say the want to try Linux because it looks good.
I use KDE 3.1, with an apple window dressing (three coloured dots),and the crystal icons

Not like KDE. Gnome looking like KDE would be lame :D . However, I like Gorilla theme for Gnome. You should get it out of Gnome's CVS.
