how do you forum goers like the new open source linux project for the MAC OS X?
The fink project will enable you 2 run linux apps right on your MAC OS X desktop.

Recompiling & using X11 isn't bad at all...I really don't see why Fink is necessary. It probably just lets people skip the recompiling step.

Huh?
I didn't have to compile, recompile anything.
I just downloaded Apple X11, and use fink thrugh the command line.
It's cool, more for bragging rights tho. I have yet to find a linux app. I can actually use for anything.

If you didn't use fink, you'd have to recompile...
The Mac platform has everything I need too...I don't see the need to run Linux apps. Some corporate users might find it nice if the company uses in-house software.

I like fink too, but I too have yet to find an app that my mac can't do. My fav linux app is MPlayer, but that has been converted fully to the mac, no need to run it in X11, it runs in Aqua.

Erm, that's not exactly news raptor. The fink project has been around since OS X.1.
It is identical to Synaptic for Linux and uses apt-get. You can also use fink-commander, a graphical frontend to fink, if you are not a big fan of the terminal.
I've used it so far to download Emacs and Lynx and all I can say is that it r0x. ;)

i should have worded it better! I was mainly wondering what the thoughts were on it.

I have a few X11 apps I actually use sometimes.
XV is a decent graphics editor. It's kind of like a free Graphic Converter with an eccentric interface.
I use GIMP sometimes.
AbiWord is a pretty good free word processor.
Amaya is the only free WYSIWYG HTML editor that runs under OS X.
There are other I use sometimes, but those are the biggies.
-
actually mozilla composer is a wysiwyg html editor that runs in macOSX (doesn't it?) and there's an openoffice.org beta that runs under X11 in OSX and it no doubt contains a wysiwyg html editor (the linux/x86 version does).
-
I looked for a version of Composer for OS X, and it doesn't seem to exist. Composer was a part of Communicator 4, but recent versions don't have it.
I haven't tried OpenOffice yet (big download) but if it has a WYSIWYG HTML editor, I might just try it. Amaya's okay, but it has a beta feel to it. (Well, more like an alpha with a clunky interface...)

Composer is present in Mozilla...
May I suggest the shareware program PageSpinner, it's like 20bucks, but in all honesty it is one of the best webpage programms available!
I use it regularly despite the presence of GoLive on my HD. PageSpinner is light weight, and it dosn't remove you all the way from the HTML I love it.

Yep, Composer is present in Mozilla. If you haven't got Mozilla, may I suggest you download it as well. ;)
