Microsoft has already left my house and it didn't cost me a penny. In fact, I made money on the deal.

$56 to make M$ go away would be money well spent.  I would do it if it wasn't free already.

I've bought a couple of distros: Mandrake 8.1 and Libranet 2.7, and got a few more from these low-cost CD suppliers. Still didn't cost as much as the XP upgrade, and a much better value to be sure. M$ is completely gone here, and I can't say I miss it one bit  (http://tongue.gif)

I'm Microsoft-free too (except for my mouse, but I view that as taking advantage of them) since I got rid of IE, but Microsoft is hurting a lot of people and is still causing harm to the Macintosh computing experience in general.

Hell yes, I would pay $56. I would pay $1000 (provided I had time to save up for it). I'm surprised that most of you are being so passive about this. This is the Microsoft Eradication Forums for crying out loud!

paying 56 bucks for them to leave is a lot cheaper than paying about 170 bucks to keep em (cost of XP Pro)

170? In Sweden, XP costs the equivalent of 276

WinME and 2k are also are also priced at around $500 - weird isnt it?

$56 was their share price a few weeks ago. Reason being maybe it's possible to take MS down from the inside...

A small tactical warhead would get the job done at a much lower price...

yes; actually i don't think he was into scouts, but he started working on it when he was 15, and completed it when he was 17.  quite inventive means of gaining his material.  I read how he did it in reader's digest a few years ago.  Anyone interested?

Sure, I'd pay $56 to make M$ go away if I could afford it and weren't a broke college student.

So, I just settle for downloading ISOs of any Linux distro I want to try or implement.

Here I thought we were all chipping in for some kind of assault weapon. One of the huge benefits of Linux is that it's free. All you have to pay for is the hardware.

I just download the ISOs, but sometimes it is very nice to have tech support along for the ride. I'm just afraid of when the megacorps try releasing their own Linux versions.

It is only an opinion but I think the older dudes, 20+ with jobs would actually pay for their favorite Linux OS, I did. 30-60 bucks isn't really alot for a very good OS compared to 200 dollar Windows XP home edition. The Mac Addicts pay much more for their computers.

ive always used a 700 mgz hp pc, it came with winme, i pirated xp but it was slow (i had 64 mb of ram) i got linux, 64 mb was great with it, my friend gave me some old memory mods that i threw in there and am presently at 196 mb. and of course i paid absolutely nothing past buying the pc. i have no plans of upgrading, unless they start releasing good native games for linux, in which i would want a good 1.5 ghz and up. i dont even try to play games on this. im sure they would work well but not as good as my gamecube or ps2 so thats what i settle for.

Actually Windows users pay more than Mac users in the long run. Mac users pay more to get their software and hardware, but over a two year period Windows users would shell out a lot more bucks than us Maccies.
