my proxy doesnt allow me to go to microsoft
-
I tried it on Yahoo, and AOL.com was #5 :D
-
What's odd is I found the article on The Register yesterday about that. But yesterday (and still today) when I go to google and type in "go to hell" the first thing on the list is "HELL.COM". I see nothing M$ related anywhere.
I thought maybe google checked my browser string to see what browser I was using and refined my search based on that as I use konqueror and I do not identify as IE. I also do not allow cookies from google. But then I changed my browser string to IE and still didn't get it. Then I tried in Mozilla and I still don't get it.
I also have M$ blocked at my proxy but that shouldn't cause it not to come up in a google search... still confused on this one...
-
Did you put in go to hell? you should put in "go to hell". I found Hell.com without the quotes.
Note the double quotes.

I found the same as void main. In windows and linux it went to hell.com. Ia lso tried google.co.uk and google.ca
-
thats fu@king great. it takes you straight to hell!! kinda makes me want to make a parody religious site about "searching down the wrong path leads us from the path of rightousness to the 'gates' of hell, blah blah blah."

Ahh! I missed the part about the quotes (") being required. It works when I add the quotes. Another interesting one I just tried is "the gates of hell" (without the quote marks). About the 7th link down brings you here:
http://egomania.nu/gates.html (http://egomania.nu/gates.html)

/me hits head against wall.
-
That "adds up to 666" thing is hilarious. So is the go to hell thing... :D :D :D

-
why does it go to microsoft.com?
quote:
1) Go into word for windows.
2) Type 'Unable to get a date' and highlight this text.
3) Go to 'Tools, Language, Set Language' and change to 'English (United States)'.
4) Make sure your text is still highlighted.
5) Go to 'Tools, Language, Thesaurus'.
see what happens?
nothing! what was supposed to happen???

When you call up the Thesaurus the bottom option is 'unable to get an erection'.
Mindshateringly funny, the comic mastery of this little joke leads one to believe that this comedian will one day write a book that will make Juvenille look like a gross amateur with nothing to say.

And the 666 thing has been on here before 1 in denary is not equivalent to 1 in ASCII (so it's bollocks).

Microsoft tops Google hell search rankings
By John Lettice

Weirdisms in Google's ranking system are sent to entertain us occasionally, and as we've had this one from a couple of people today, we suspect it's new. But don't blame us if it's not, we lead sheltered lives sometimes.
Currently, if you type "go to hell" into Google, then Microsoft Corporation, Where do you want to go today? comes first. This is particularly outstanding given that the number two slot is occupied by hell.com itself, which seems to be a very weird site we do not understand (told you we lead sheltered lives).
Honourable mention in third place for AOL Anywhere, which does indeed seem to us a possible definition of hell. Then they get kind of normal.
Wandering round the topic we tripped over The official Microflaccid page, which reports a couple of similar incidents. And then there's The Register, which covered a couple here and here.
the register reported it too.
-
apparently it was on slashdot first.
also, weirdisms? it's a deliberate easter egg fergodssake!
-
hey! i found another uncanny weirdism in google!!!!
go to google.com and type in the word "Calum" and the word "Music", and then hit 'I'm Feeling Lucky'...
-
go to www.googl.ca (http://www.googl.ca)
