I was able to figure out someone's password and now Microsoft has placed "things" on my computers both at home and at work. I work as a paralegal doing securities litigation and am currently investigating one of their own, I feel like I have no privacy. They must be impressed with my work because they've been on my computers for a month now. I was hoping that it was the government or the SEC, but it's them. Did you know that Bill Gates' dad is a partner if the firm of Preston Gates in the Silicon Valley? If you can't get a hold of Bill send an email to his dad. I just don't know what to do. I really do believe that the Internet is anarchy.

Switch to Linux, it's perfect for paranoids such as yourself.
-
I'm not paranoid, yet. I just want to know why every day there are "collected data" files with an .XML extension on my hard drive. Actually I took my computer to Best Buy it was tagged as "dirty" and when I brought it home I found a new hard drive installed (which I wasn't charged for). What do you think of that? How do you switch to the other? I've changed all of their access to adobe because I know that't not them.
-
Try a Mac, it may be a bit pricier, but Linux is very difficult if you've never used a Unix OS before. I don't get 99% of it and I've been trying to figure it out for several years now.
-
First off, I also recommend doing what everyone else says here. Use linux or buy a mac. If neither of those are within your immediate reach, Tiny personal firewall 2.0 works well. Controls access for every program to the outside world. And if anything tries to get through that it doesn't know about, it alerts you and tells you what it is and where it wants to go (I think...). But if you do have the funds, go for both. Get a mac and install linux on it. (http://smile.gif)
-
i think it's stretching it a bit to claim that linux is difficult. still, if you can afford it, get a mac, if you don't want to use up much time learning how to work your new system (macOS is more similar to windows in terms of interface than a lot of the linux interfaces).
-
You dickheads, we could have a good article and you people are just going to scare him away with you get a mac bit, your all dickheads.
Anyway, can you email me some of the files so I can see if there actually harmfull?

Thats very weird, it may be someone at best buy who put a trojan on your system or somthing. (A trojan is a program that runs without you knowing, allowing your system to be open to an internet attack.
Parhaps if I had your IP address I could do a portscan and see what is open.
If you want goto the "Command Prompt" and type "netstat" and post the results.
And nevermind those other people, they are dickheads as I said earlier, and I cant wait for some great balls of fire (as in people insulting me on the forum).

that's pretty pathetic comment coming from you, x11.
i can't figure out if you are really trying to help this guy or if you just want his ip address and so on in order to trash his system.
(that'll make him paranoid now even if you are trying to be helpful! ;) ) still, it doesn't help your case much that you called everybody else dickheads.
edit: incidentally, this thread looks dead, and if i were being ruthless today i would have binned it.

My god, CANT YOU SEE THIS, THIS COULD BE ON SLASHDOT, IM TRYING TO HELP HIM YOUR GOING TO SCARE HIM.
We could have found somthing in XP, and your going to dead thread it.
DICKHEAD.
-
i didn't dead thread it, it's just that people have been moaning a lot that i fail to dead thread a lot of topics, so i thought for a while i would post a note to all threads that i think should be dead threaded. that way if people continue moaning, then i really will start dead threading them all.
as for that stuff about slashdot, i don't understand why this particular case is getting under your skin! why don't you just pm or email him if you want more info?
-
Because thats why we have a forum, so we can "discuss" things, sadly Dickheads like you scared all the smart people away.
It might just be one less.
-
if they're so smart, they won't be scared simply by dickheads. i really am puzzled about why you have such a goana in your akubra about this particular thread!
-
X11 is the dickhead if you ask me :D
-
i'm not saying a word! ;)
on an unrelated issue, are you aware that your signature reads: quote:
my uptime: error
edit: on another unrelated note, is /usr/bin/Maniaman really a symlink to /usr/bin/maniaman?

 what... the... fuck... happened... I go to fix my uptime thing, and while I'm at it I check my server uptime.... It was 57days earlier today and now its only 6 hours... I know we didn't have any power outages either... Weird...

In the 58 days the system was running after changing some hardware, it hasn't crashed once to my knowledge... The uptime would be well over 4 months if we didn't have a bunch of power outages and I hadn't changed the hardware.
Yesterday though, we came close to brownouts.. almost lost power... That might have been enough to restart the machine.. I doubt it though...

Oh come on, that's just fucking lame Billy. And we've got a paralegal being stalked by MS? That's even funnier.
You are suffering from some sort of mass hysteria complex where MS is soooo evil that they will stalk you, a lone paralegal, and you are too dumb to do anything about it. Some people in here are too slow to realize that Windows can be secured from "just anyone", even Microsoft, entering your system. And they say "switch to Linux"; yeah like Linux comes nice and secure out of the box too right? Wrong. Bashing MS out of envy won't solve a damn thing.
Let Bill Gates count his money and fuck with paralegals all he wants. It's time to stop bitching and start doing something to futher develop Linux and open source so that people will have no choice but to notice Linux as king of the PC world.
-
what!!... why arent you paranoid.... you should be. Just because i'm paranoid doesnt mean they're not out to get me. I recommend switching to Linux (http://www.redhat.com) which will be quite a lot more secure.
-
You think this is funny. The guy I'm investigating wrote a program while at Xeror called Gypsy, then it was called Bravo, today it's called Microsoft Word.
-
hehehe
-
your first statement seems quite lost and redundant. who is it addressed to for a start? Master of Realisty? he didn't seem to be finding it funny. the reader? if so, how do you know? somebody else? who is it?
as for who you're investigating, what difference does it make to the answers and replies you might get here?
my personal advice is that if i were investigating somebody working for microsoft and i was connecting my computer to the internet, i would probably have erased any microsoft software off it beforehand and got an operating system that does what you tell it. now if you think that means i find this situation "funny" then i really would like you to explain why to me.

hmm yeah right. windows can be made 100% secure, even from microsoft and linux is crap and full of holes. are you a time traveller from about ten years ago? no even that wouldn't account for it... maybe you're from another dimension....
