Is there any way i could monitor how many hits a link gets? I dont mean a normal link, i want to see how many people will click a link to c:\con\con where it says: dont click here (http://file://c:\con\con)
-
No.

'nother question: If i put a bit of HTML into an e-mail (from a free e-mail service run by commtouch) would it actually show up as HTML???
I want to put a pic that is linked to a bravenet counter so i can get the e-mail address of an anti-bob.

Yes, you can do an "img src=" in a properly formated email and if the email program that the target uses auto loads images from remote sites (outlook/lookout) then you can look at your server logs and find out if they have read your email and what IP they are at, etc. I use a safe email client on Linux so remote images do not automatically load.
Also I spoke too soon on the first question. As you asked the question the answer would be "no", however if you used a redirect script (like the PHP example I gave elseware) then you can count how many times a user clicked your crash link.

Wasnt this some kind of error that was in earlier versions of IE? I cant quite remember what it does, but I think it crashes the computer. Love using linux.
-
yeah it crashed when you opened it
-
wait... If i made another page that has a meta refresh tag in it and put the counter on that page and let it refresh to c:\con\con then i would get a count of the people.
...and do any of you know which free web host will offer offsite image linking?

It doesn't crash my machine. Perhaps because I am using the powerhouse OS that is XP.

thats right only crashes Windows 9x (i've even tested Win 3.11)

only win95, 98 and 98SE unpatched. WinME does not crash, and neither does win98 when patched with appropriate Microsoft security update. Many will not have said update though, and it took them five years to release it too.
Also the exploit only works automatically in IE, the victim must manually type C:/Con/Con in the address bar in other browsers if they want to crash their machine.
Also, i have heard that this exploit has the capability of randomly destroying your filesystem! i haven't seen this myself so have no idea what the odds are of it occurring, but it sounds mucho serious, and M$ themselves do not admit that this can occur.

Yes the bug is kinda old but i am digging into Windows looking for more myself and when i find one to put into html i will use it!
Anyways i have a new tracker!
