Australia has the right idea. Forced voting. If they don't vote, fine them. And they should also send out brochures about all of the candidates to educate the people. Then maybe we could avoid putting people like bush in office. But then again, we didn't put him in...
-
Yeah, or we could all do like the democrats did in the last election... send buses into central city areas, and pay people to get on the bus and then tell them how to vote. Register them on the buses if they werent already registered, and then bitch like hell when they couldn't fill out a ballot properly.
Yeah, that's democracy... getting people who probably can't spell the names of the cities they live in and practically forcing them to vote for who should run one of the few nations that could annihilate all life on this planet in minutes. Great plan.

Actually I am more grateful about it today than I was the day he won.

No, that's why we have people like Bush in now. Idiots unqualified to vote get to choose who governs their country, and too many of them come to the conclusion that "duhhh uhh Bush good." If anything, you should have to write an essay explaining why you're voting for the candidate you're voting for.

I believe they voted for both (gave cash to each for their campaign). When you can afford it you might as well get in bed with both sides. I'm sure they didn't tell anyone who they voted for...

"It doesn't really change anything, to be honest," said Duke University political-science professor Benjamin St. James. "The public hasn't made any real contributions to the governance of the country in decades, so I don't see how this ruling affects all that much."
"I wouldn't worry about it," St. James added. "It's not that important."
whather any of you think this is untrue or not, it is completely true.
what's the use in resting on your laurels, safe in the knowledge that you have an inalienable right to democracy if none of you ever stick your neck out and try and make the world (or just your own locality) a better and fairer place to live?

no he didn't.
Your 'democrats' vote just the same way as your republicans, the only difference is that the democrats are piss weak. the only way to get a decent government in the USA is for YOU, yes i said YOU (and people like you who give a shit, get your mates involved too) to go and run for office. Not necessarily senator, but ANY public office. Many offices don't get any candidates at all, so go and run and you might well get in, and then you can do some good and maybe even work your way a bit higher up the system. If you don't then the greedy and the lazy will get all the 'elected' jobs since they are the only ones who run. no wonder the electorate are dissillusioned.
-
Correction: at least he had slightly more of a soul than Bush.
Our system does not take into account the laziness and stupidity of people (voters and politicians), which is why it was doomed to fail and is why it already has failed. None of our presidents want to make America or the world better, they just want to hold office for four years, retire, and let the next guy deal with it. Unfortunately, the next guy always has the same attitude and nothing ever gets accomplished.
We need to create a system that makes our leaders want to push ahead for the future. If humanity is to survive, we have to create a world government eventually, but none of our leaders are interested in that or ever will be if we keep up this system. And I'm not just referring to the US's system.
-
you need to get decent people to run for your public offices! you yanks vote for more things than any other nation! use that power! where do you think good leaders come from? 'WE THE PEOPLE!' as i said before, if YOU (collectively) don't run for office, only the lazy sleazebags will! and they'll get elected because they were the only ones who turned up.

I'd make a perfect U.S treasurer.
95% of all the money would go into my annonymous account in a Sweedish bank.
4% would go towards the MES.
1% would go towards the U.S. (http://smile.gif)
