Title: buy.com launches digital music service like iTunes

Read the story here (http://news.com.com/2100-1027_3-5051609.html?tag=cnetfd.buzz)

Great idea, except for these things:

quote:

The site caters only to people with computers running Microsoft Windows and the Windows Media Player 9 software.

BuyMusic.com's infrastructure also relies heavily on Microsoft's .Net technology, the software needed to run Web applications written with Microsoft's development tools.

"When you get to the site, it is going to be painfully obvious that we have a partnership with Microsoft in regards to the way we built the site and run the site," Blum said.

People trying to access the BuyMusic.com site through rival browsers to Microsoft's Internet Explorer--including Opera, Mozilla, Netscape or Apple's Safari--currently receive an error message.

Until they allow other browsers (and I don't mean just simply identifying your browser as IE) and until they use a file format other than one owned by Microsoft, these guys will not be getting my money.

Was on a work box running Naff Technology Workstation and it simply wouldn't run V 9 media player.

and they reckon this will stop people using Kazzar, WinMX etc... Yeh right and Bill Gates is a nice guy ...
