God please no! That's the last thing I would want to see. Don't foget to read the link in the middle of the page "here it is again". It's one of the funniest things I've read in a while!

Source code in VB6 (or whatever) for M$ Windows. If M$ has to hand it over, how long before it makes it onto the black market? Unscrupulous independent developers could use the code for a stripped down faster, better, more stable version of windows (called something else possibly), they could make it cheaper and maybe free! It could be the first OS to truly run Win32 and *NIX programs, since both sets of source codes would be available.
A couple of years for this to happen? Maybe...

I wished this would happen when I blew out the candles on my 20th birthday cake. I can't wait for the rest of my wishes to come true!
* waits in avid suspense for "bra and panties" Camreon Diaz to come through the door *
If MS had to reveal their code I hope someone intelligent looks through it and points out how rubbish it is.
I admittedly have no proof that MS code is pants, but I'd stake my reputation on it.
-
Well, according to www.theregister.co.uk (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/24095.html) the judge said MS has to hand over their code to the states. We'll see how long that actually takes to happen. You know MS will try to squirm and wiggle their way out of it like they always do with their lawyer drag the feet bullshit. I have never seen such babies when the gun is pointed at them, but when MS holds the gun they are like sharks.

This could be the beginning of the end if the ruling actually goes through AND somebody competent (and not under Microsoft's influence) actually looks at the source code. I wonder what repercussions the States would have to face if that source code was "accidentally" leaked out onto the internet and the open-source community . . . ? Maybe this is just me, but I'd be willing to take the fall if it would bring Microsoft under control. I wonder how altruistic our government officials are? Everybody cross your fingers . . .

/me waits for the source to leak and the first true linux port of windows :D

I'm not much on gambling but I would think the chances of M$ caving and saying "ok, we just figured out a way to separate the browser from the OS after all" will likely happen before they hand over their precious (em-bare-ass-ing) source code.

HAAHHAHA! I bet the thing is like a pile of loose spegetti, superfllus functions like:
RandomlyDestroyAllData();
ShowBillGatesPorNo();
and
Stall( long hours );
are floating around for no rhyme or Reason.
They will probably go in and erase the few comments they have like:
/*This function Hails Satan every 666 minutes*/
/*The following code segment is designed to spy on the user.*/
or the ever encriminating:
/*Set this variable to FALSE in order to remove IE from the OS*/
Boolean MAKE_SYSTEM_CRAPY = TRUE;

I actually have the source code to Windows 95. Here I'll post it (win95.c):
-
Well, I don
-
If it works, then great! I used IEradicator mentioned in another post and that worked great too. My computer hasn't crashed since then. That's not to say that I'm going to be sticking with Windows. As soon as I can safely repartition things (or find enough change to buy another harddrive), Linux is getting installed and Windows will only be used for the occasional gaming. But until that happens, its nice to know that I'll no longer have to worry about being kicked in the junk on a daily basis by my own computer.

Is that really the code for win95? It seems a little compact, i expected winows to take up a lot more space than that!
Yes, i uninstalled IExplore and Outlook (both Outlook 97 and Outlook Express) using the "search and destroy method, by hand. BUT you can never be sure you got everything, and you're sure to have a registry full of redundant entries too, clogging up space, unless you can be assed to sort through it all and you have a bit of luck on yr side.
A program like IEradicator or PurgeIE is a great idea, so long as you trust the programmers! what with all the hoohaa about iexplore and security, you can only be sure of yr own security if you do it yrself.
Having said that, i just used IEradicator and found it to be ideal!
Vive la revolution.

Are you serious? I *thought* that even non-programmers could read that and find humor in it but I guess I was wrong. It's structured in the format of a C program but if you actually read it I think you will see that it fits most of our gripes about M$ (well at least all of the gripes that have been with us since around 1995-96 timeframe when this was written).
I guess it would help to know decision branching statements like "if" and "switch", maybe I've been programming too long.... Sorry about that...
-
Void, I thought the Win95 "source code" you posted was great! Very accurate. Thanks for the much needed humour. It was much appreciated.

Want to be able to "ACCESS TEH WINDOWZ PHUN" without worrying about rebooting every 5 minutes?
One word: VMWARE
Dunno how it works for XP/2K though, and Ive only toyed with it under a slack system.
-
Kage, you are a day late (maybe two, don't know about yer dollars though). We just had a fairly large thread on VMware in one of the other threads....
-
Sorry bout that mate.
As you can so abundantly see, I am a newbie to your forums here. Im rather vocal about fallacies when it comes to hardware and software, though, and like to help also, so I couldnt help but jump in.
I apologize for being redundant. But reinforcement never hurt....yeaaaaah, thats it.

LMAO
Great "code" VoidMain. (http://smile.gif)

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry!
We really need a sarcasm tag! ;)
I thought your win95 source code was hilarious and very apt, but i just moved on ito sarcassm mode without even thinking about it! i do that all the time! :D
-
LMAO, it's been a while since I visited the site, and coming back, I liked to see that 'source code'. LOL.
-
I'm sure I saw it in PCPlus about 2yrs ago but there was a gentleman in UK who removed browser from Wimpdoze without any ill-effex (except waste of his life for several weeks).
I don't understand this 'source code' thing - surely the win op system is on your pc so you have all the info there which you can take to bits/ play with/modify ? And, another thing - I now have Mandrake 8.1 cd which I'm going to install on 'D'. I know little (read sfa) about linux but will use f8 (to command prompt) to boot linux instead of Whingedos and will use mozilla?? for browser after I understand system but can I use Word, Excel etc. through Linux or what alternatives are there? Win3.1 worked, never crashed (ever - in 2yrs!)(after I 'played' with it) but at the moment I'm stuck with '98 (fil's pc)and I've already re-booted 3 times by booting pc (literally) this week. Where do I find info on Mandrake / Linux (everything from how it works to 'source code') 'cos pc is set up & works (except when it crashes) but I reeeeeeeeely want an alt. OS. Any help would be appreciated. I want to know how to 'program', alter, understand Linux.
Thanks,

PS - weall... - I had 2yrs ago - but Billgatesisacunt@..... - unavailable. I heard his mother got this one first....
-
Well, you can start by going to http://www.mandrake.com (http://www.mandrake.com) and reading everything you can get your hands on, they should have plenty of links to other sites like the Mandrake forum....
-
First of all, check out this article. (http://http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/24158.html)
quote:
Judge Colleen Kollar-Kottely has followed up her interesting decision that Microsoft should allow Windows source code to be independently reviewed by appointing someone characterised by Microsoft as a professional anti-Microsoft expert witness to review it. Which is possibly even more interesting.
She has however denied the States' request for a court-appointed expert.
Now can somebody please tell me what good this does? Microsoft more or less gets to choose who they want to review their source code. And I was just starting to get my hopes up about this entire ordeal . . . :mad:
-Gonusto
-
Hell, M$ will pay them all off anyway. It's all just "smoke and mirrors". I'm sure the "anti-Microsoft code looker" is being payed, judge whatshername is being paid.. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
-
That's not the source code, this is....
Windows 98 source code finally available ... but don't tell anyone.

Yes, that one was a good one too! But I think we have the code wrong. To be accurate the win98 source should be "win98.vbs", win95 source should be "win95.vb" and win3.xx source should be "win3xx.bas" (gw-basic on the latter).
-
I think www.vcnet.com (http://www.vcnet.com) has a piece on it somewhere about two students who stripped IE from Whingedope with no ill effex but I can't find it again.
& I'm struggling with install of mandrake still (I think the 'mount' command got me confused or excited..... ;)
-
what's all the panic? i used IEradicator to remove iexplore from my WinME install and if anything, it's MORE stable than it was before!
The only problem with IEradicator (from '98lite' in case you're looking for it) is that it only removes 99% of the "internet desktop integration" bullshit in order that Outlook will still run. Well since i don't have outlook either, i wish it had removed the extra 1% as well! oh well...
Forward the apocalypse!
