so uhh what do we all listen to here? Genre artists, favorite group/artist, etc...
My favorite group is currently the pixies, cuz their cool like that... But don't get me wrong, I like all sorts of crap from JOhnny Cash, to fuckin kid606.
-
i like everything good, and that's a lot(no that doesn't stretch to johnny cash, sorry...)
-
Lots of good music around, I listen to all Genres, but gotta say C + W is for the most part an annoyance to my ears, and lame rock groups that think they are cool (Limp Biskit, Linkin Park, etc.) can bugger off. If it's in the top 20 then it's likely it's a pile of Shite, talent and originallity are what makes any music great.
Recent acquisitions that I think are very good, Ellington - Armstrong rerelease on CD, forget what it's called but Ellington was top of his Game and Satch just made it all good, several Hedkandi releases, borrowed copy of The White Stripes' White Blood Cells - worth it the hype is not too far off. And listen to John Peel (on BBC radio one), that will keep you alert to where the good music is.
Feel the panic.
-
no you have it all rong, things in the top twenty are created by the band, hell, its made by some dude sitting in a cube.

Oh c'mon! How could you not like "Burnin' Ring of Fire"?!?!? (http://smile.gif) "She went down down down in that burnin' ring of fire" or something like that...
-
i always thought it was about trying to pass solids after a heavy night consuming tins of export... (http://smile.gif)

Heh heh, I don't know what it is about but I remember hearing it when I was a kid. I've never been big on Johnny Cash either. I'm more into rock & roll, mainly from 70's, 80's and 90's.
I used to be particularly fond of southern rock, like Skynyrd, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet etc. Of course there was a time when I was more into Van Halen, AC/DC, Scorpions, etc. Then there was the time when I was more into Def Lepard, Poison, etc. Then there was the period when it was The Who, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Ozzie, etc. Then there was the Boston, Huey Lewis, Dire Straights stage. Then there was ... awww, never mind. (http://smile.gif)
But really I like most everything across the whole spectrum of Rock depending on what mood I am in. Country is where I draw the line. The part that sucks is my wife, her family, and my daughter are nuts about country music. Every time I drive her car I flip it to the Rock station, which pisses her off, and part of the reason I do it. (http://smile.gif)

Or is everyone here a little too old?
Yay for Limp Bizkit! Yay for Eminem! Yay for rap music or modern rock(although some of it does suck).

Yeah, the dead kennedys do rock (http://smile.gif)
-
ROFL! Well I know I always get a rise out of the geasers here so I always have to mention them for a laugh. Although im not joking, I do like them. At least give me credit for understanding that rap is like wrestling...
-
Punk Rock.
I might very well be the worst punk-fan in history though - but I still like it.

Not all rap sucks, but yes fuck limp bizkit and mtv. I listen to mostly underground hip hop [no not jay z, eminem, ja rule or anything else that has ever touched mtv except maybe method man & older outkast stuff] Also some old school punk rock is good now and then minor threat, dead kennedys, someone else mentioned descendents they kick ass, older bad religion albums also rule. On the hip hop side its mostly living legends [the grouch, eligh, murs, aesop] gangstarr, apathy, slug, hieroglyphics, souls of mischief, pep love, zion i, unknown prophets, old school wu-tang, sixtoo. Hell lots and lots more but I dont think anyone wants me to keep going. Then there are other things I like that just plain kick ass, Guns n Roses RULE, cat stevens, rolling stones, folk implosion, joy division, I dunno thats all I can think of now.
-
Beastie Boys are cool... but i hate eminem and Limp Bizkit.

Beastie Boys kick ass, I havnt listened to them in awhile. And I too hate eminem and Limp Bizkit.
-
that makes 3, i hate eminem and Limp bizkit.
i forgot to add that cat stevens is the coolest!! (his old shit not the new islamic stuff)
-
Why does everyone hate Eminem or Limp Bizkit, to a degree that makes it seem "cool" to hate them, yet they are so damn popular? Remember all these people who love them aren't fucking teeny bopper wusses who can't stand swearing or crude language. Even if your still a piece of shit as a mass market Limp Bizkit or Eminem fan, your 10 times better then someone into mass market pop. (http://smile.gif)
I just hope that their success doesn't come from censored versions of their songs playing it on MTV, Muchmusic, or the radio...
-
i dont think i know anyone who actually like Limp Bizkit. There is the odd few that like eminem for some very odd reason, but none who like Limp Bizkit.
I didnt mention the Blue Oyster Cult in my previous post... they are good too.
-
BTO, B-b-b-b-b-b-b-baby you ain't seen nothin' yet!
And Thin Lizzy rules!

i like eminem but i think he is too mainstream and his subject matter is too narrow. I much prefer the bloodhound gang (get a bloodhound gang album to really know what i am on about, and compare it to an eminem album while you're at it).
Beasties were good, however their early stuff was really just pisstaking, and i prefer their later musical stuff. Their keyboard player, money mark, has three solo albums which are all amazing.
looks like an undue amount of dinosaur rock fans in the audience! yes though all that stuff is good in its place. I make it a habit to listen to a variety of different styles though.
Examples:
Salif Keita - sounds like a blues guitarist but actually is an electric guitarist whose music is modernised from the traditional music of Africa.
Martyn Bennett - Hip hop Gaelic bagpiper from Canada, unique and very talented, sadly dying of cancer right now at about 30 yrs old.
South American stuff - There's so much colombian, cuban, and so on, music out there, all sorts of styles, latin, traditional, jazz and everything in between. High points are the Afro-Cuban All-Stars and The Buena Vista Social Club.
There's tons of good bands out there though. Skunkhour and Smudge for instance, both bands from Sydney, now defunct, Skunkhour were laid back lounge rap jazz, smudge were like the lemonheads but much better. You am I, another good sydney band of a similar type, just remembered them.
Oh yes, a band from melbourne that deserves tons of mentions everywhere is Pre-Shrunk (http://www.preshrunk.com). Take the time to listen to some clips of them on their website, they are two bass players, a drummer and a rack of effects. I have seen them live and from the sound they make it is difficult to believe there are not five of them. very good indeed.
-
tool, system of a down (lot's of tool and SoaD), CKY (too bad I can't find any of their cd's around here), trust company, drowning pool, godsmack, also some punk music: NOFX, bad religion, pennywise, dead kennedy's, the ramones
and sometimes when I'm in the mood for it cypress hill ....

You have just highlighted the problem, eminem and limp bizkit are mass market pop, they just make a different 'noise'.
-
System of a down is alright.
-
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds rocks.
"No! nathaniel, no..." :D
-
the latest floater in the bowl of turds is chevelle. they have that local venue grungy feel, and i reccommend them
i just like good music, but if you try to go for the mtv airtime you can suck my dick
for example: sugar ray. i saw them at a tiny venue. they were zangy hardcore. thier first cd was too. then, the POWERS THAT BE made them change thier sound. now they are pussies and thier lame ass music blows.
i will start now:
BESTS:
tool -- owns you
nirvana -- is disgusted by you
led zep -- loves you
nine inch nails -- hates you
GREATS:
primus
slayer
misfits
vogner
american head charge
ccr
folk implosion
bach
portishead
aerosmith
acdc
reo speedwagon
system of a down -- close to the top btw
many many more i would hate to miss anyone
if you have talent and good music you can make my list
if you want to discover a great band before they get big, scope out the local bands. there are two of four bands right here in my hometown that i love
really... keep an eye on chevelle, american head charge, and your local bands.
i kinda like one linkin park song, some slipknot, and a looooooong list of random shit through time. i have had over a thousand mp3s. i have nearly 400 now.
if it works for you, here is a website for my friends' band: http://www.sporkme.net/marionette/ (http://www.sporkme.net/marionette/)
they will draw 100 people at times, and we did one gig for over 500.
blah, blah, blah people who like gangsta rap need to die
-
ya primus kicks ass too.
Has anyone heard Primus and Ozzy's cover for NIB by Black sabbath?? It is some sweet ass shit, except for bassically (the bass solo) they could've done it a bit better.
The Ramones are cool too.
No one seems to have mentioned the instrumentless band Depeche Mode that pioneered the Electornica style.

Erm...yeah. Sorry they were/are crap and the only thing they pioneered was pop bands jumping on the electronic music bandwagon (and U2 can fuck off too, along with Cher and any other rock or pop artist who thinks they can be good by changing their style more electronic. There are already good groups who can mix and match, without their influence thank-you).
No I don't rate Depeche Mode, I can't remember anything they ever did that was good. And for some reason I always think of them in the Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran group of 80's dullards.
Bring on The Stone Roses, now there was a good group.
-
no i dont really like them either, i just felt it necassary to mention them. I dont really like Skinny Puppy either but they are odd.
-
atari teenage riot, the blue up, hole, mariah carey, nine inch nails, smashing pumpkins, marilyn manson, kid606, merzbow, and so on.
-
Eminem has major issues. He suffers from the "small mans syndrome".
There are dudes out there that talk the talk and walk the walk. Eminem doesnt have shit on DMX for example.
Eminem is pissed at the world with no good reason. He bashes his family like a 13 year old kid as if he was the only one that had a shity childhood.
Lets see how he would act on a street fight.

Yup. As long as it's not all-chemical (wich means simply made on the computer and sung/rapped into) [A LOT OF 'ARTISTS' FALL OFF ! spears, milian, aguilera, jackson, jackson, furtado, etc c] and not dumb, (in the form of that the ones who deserve credit don'get it, usually the band that stands behind the 'artist') [lavigne, jones, et c] i can hear almost everything.
I do not think limp bizkit sucks as bad as i heard some people say, but i do think they've really turned too commercial. Songs like 'my way' aren't really good compared to stuff like nookie and i'm broke.
I think real artist should be _artists_, and not entertainers like most people now. Just take an example of Calum ! He does everything himself, writes, plays the guitar in a very styled way and makes some dance-music too !
Like I said: credits for the ones who deserve it.
-
Thin Lizzy (The boys are back in town)
Status Quo (Whatever you want)
Nazareth (Love hurts)
Sweet (The ballroom blitz)
Kiss (Rock and roll all nite)
Deep Purple (Child in time)
Rush (Xanadu)
Marillion (Garden party)
Slade (Cum on feel the noize)
Queen (Bohemian rhapsody)
Iron Butterfly (In-a-gadda-da-vida)
King Crimson (Hall of the crimson king)
Genesis (Mama)
Pink Floyd (Money)
Whitesnake (Fool for your loving)
To name but a few...

No real commerical rapper can walk the walk. It's almost completly talk. Perhaps rappers have a little more crime charges then the standard recording artist, but the key is "a little more". This should not be used to prove that they are even remotely like they portray themselves in their songs.

Eminem and Limp are both a pair of sellouts. No offence. Go System of a down. Go Frenzel Rhomb, Go the Living End. The last too where australian so some of you may not know about them. Yay for Calum!

Actually it does today i was at McDonalds getting a feed and these 9 year old kids where sing cecsored versions of Eminem songs.
I hate Eminem because his music is about the following things:
him being abused.
him abusing others.
him bitching about crap.
him wanting to be a "gangsta"
him wanting to be "black"
And dont call me racist for the last one its more then true. You dont have to act an accent too rap.
Also keep in mind that autralia is so full of migrants that there are more non-australians at my school then australian born people. Which makes me a minoroity group, and that there are wannbe gangsta's everywhere. And anglo's that think there wog for some reason. 850 people in one school... its madness.
