Thanks for the previous post Calum, its now official Linux will be used by the Munich Govt.  They only now have to figure which distro. will be used.  This is a huge step and I believe many will follow.

well gee whillikers, isn't this the fourth new thread about this subject? it's no big deal!

(well it is, but four threads?)

and were they leaning towards SuSE? i do hear that a lot when people talk about Germans "oh yes they were thinking about SuSE", well so they should, SuSE was the first Linux company to really capture the European market, and they are a German company, but i also think that maybe this is stereotyping Germans a bit. I mean Mandrake are European also, and a lot of corporate backing has gone into Red Hat (and to a lesser extent Turbolinux), from the West coast of the USA, why wouldn't they be considered seriously too?

I just heard that they were thinking of Suse because they had Suse developers "in country."  maybe I'm getting slashdot rumours and real news confused in my brain again...

Nationalism is a terrible reason to choose a distro.  (http://smile.gif)
(but are they all so similiar that it makes no difference what is chosen?)

Just out of curiosity, is there a "Canadian" Linux distro?
