Why bin this? This is in the lounge.

Let me clear up what this person is trying to say, as I understand it.

I believe the use of elite(31337) Speak is not only inappropriate, but also foolish. It is used mostly by script kiddies, those who claim to be hackers yet know nothing about hacking except sending email bombs and DDoS'ing users. It is very hard to understand for those of us not proficient in it, and that makes it seen as annoying, since those who aren't proficient are the vast majority. What is your opinion on the use of elite (31337) Speak?

Well my opinion on elite speak is that it is annoying, and those who usually speak it in chat rooms or on boards are usually young and childish(no offense Refalm).

Myself, I actually find 1337 5p3@|< very amusing.  However, I'm easily amused.  (http://redface.gif)   :D

"leet" isn't short for "eleet". It was an IRC port.. or hacking language.. or something. It bugs me when people say it is, even though someone's likely to disprove me.

Interesting.. but what explains for the default IRC port being 1337, or in mIRC at least?

perhaps l337 has become so popular and mainstream it has saturated the "trendy". Seriousely. Can you go anywhere where someone doesn't "speak" l337 or some nonsense. Its rediculous.  They have no idea what the start bar is yet they know l33t, Seems like a perfect market to exploit. Get them while its "cool" or some shit. bait. hook. score.

I've met my share of annoying kids on IRC who try to act like superhackers just because they know what Linux is. It's annoying. Even if they do know that there's more than operating system on this planet, that doesn't give them the right t0 t@Ik l1k3 741$.

Why does it take like ten minutes from the time I update my sig to the time it's actually updated?

It's because UBB clears it's cache every 6 hours. Some of the cache can even get stuck on the server

At the same time I'm still getting rather rude PMs from people who don't have DSL and don't know how to block images.

I don't have DSL either, I have cable

But anyway, I don't want to block images from a server which hosts lots of images, just because your signature happens to be large.
