The Big problem is internet freedom. SSSCA , CBDTPA , TCPA , DRM , DCMA etc....YIKE'S , looks like somebody has to build up a 2nd parallel internet and provide service without all of the above.People need to switch to open source software and hold on to those old computers! I dont like whats coming. Looks like all P.C.'s will be just like PAY CABLE BOX'ES. We need an open source internet service provider in the near future.

*cough give me money to do it cough*
though 802.11 is looking better

*cough*Fucktard*cough*
anyhoo... cant they just jam 802.11? i'd think Billgatus could EASILY buy out the licenses for those frequencies... and as for the idea for a second parallel internet, didnt a bunch of scientists try to do that already and just failed on getting the funding???
-
ummm, obviuosly a second internet wouldn't fly, not legally atleast, and anything you do they could block. example, set up a dialin system like an 80's style bbs and they tell the phone companies to cut your connection and fine you for violation of some dumb law. this is the same government that passed the DMCA you think they would let something like that exist, something beyound there power??? and didn't i mention funding..

Wait a minute! A second internet? If anyone tried to create a second internet people would say, "hmmm... it would be really efficient if Internet2 had easy access to Internet1," then Internet2 would become part of the first internet. Having two internets that are disconnected from each other is just too inefficient for today's world.

Meh, you think they wouldn't let me have a BBS? I'm paying for the phone line, after all. . .
-
thell let you have it untill they label you a terrorist
-
But it's not the internet that's restricting anything. I am confident that if i want to know something, or have something, the internet is the place and no law is going to stop me from finding it. And i believe there are a few countries which do not put limits on internet usage. a second internet would get shrugged away because we all know it would fail, if it didn't, we'd have it governed. I suggest, getting the funds to:
1.) buy out some island way out in the pacific
2.) have a satelite(s) launched to serve your second internet
3.) make your own phone company
4.) get defenses for your country because we know you'll probably get bombed or something.
basicly you'd have to pick-pocket billy while he's walking down the street.

I dunno, it seems far fetched to outlaw local BBSs if these local BBSs cannot access the internet.
With the internet, you theroectially(FFS someone tell me how to spell this!) gain the knowledge of everyone conncected. With BBS, you are limited to the knowledge of a few. So no matter how hard the few try, they cannot match the net. So if information restriction was the key, you'd hope that the governments would think local BBSs were a joke.
(of course that would be short sighted, but the governments are shortsighted anyways!)
