Title: website hosting
Post by: Master of Reality on 1 April 2002, 03:21
i've looked everywhere (epecially google (http://www.google.com)) but cant find good free webhosting.
I got one old tripod account, from back when they offered 50 megs and i need more space. Does anyone know a free web hosting site, that offers 50 megs or more?

how much does 69megs.com (http://www,69megs.com) offer? is it 69 megs?

Hey,

My wife uses Stormpages (http://www.stormpages.com) for her website. They offer 50megs. The biggest disadvantage is the y don't offer FTP you must use their file manager. Otherwise it is decent and free.

i found out that www.fortunecity.com (http://www.fortunecity.com) gives 100MB, but only offers FTP. pretty sweet.
Planning to start my business website...
Apocalypse Now!?: for all your destructive needs.
i gotta come up with a better motto (any ideas).

[motto]
Apocalypse Now!?
     ...so long, and thanks for all the fish.
[/motto]

if you have read any of the books: "the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy", "the restaurant at the end of the universe", "Life, the universe, and everything", "so long, and thanks for all the fish", or "Mostly Harmless", you might  understand.

Check it out carefully before you get a site. Alot of sites won't allow large files sizes 200K-400K is usually the limit.

Another major drawback of many freesites is limited bandwidth. Figure at least 2Gigs of bandwidth a month if you plan on having many people come to your site.

These can be major hassles at times depending on your particular needs.

P.S. I am also a Douglas Adams fan.  (http://smile.gif)

i think i got it figured out. fortunecity does have a 3MB limit, but thats ok because i will store any files over 3 MB at one of the online stoarage places like freedrive. My company site shouldnt have that much big files, unlike The Abyss (http://abyss.zapto.org) which has 200 MB of music to dl and something like 4GB bandwith, (its spread out between 3 old angelfire and 1 old tripod account)
I hijacked one of the angelfire sites from a friend of mine, i fucked up his site (http://www.angelfire.com/dc/ice0) too

oh, yeah, The Abyss (http://abyss.zapto.org) is under major construction, you wont be able to see ANY pictures, but all the links and music dl's work fine.

www.stormpages.com (http://www.stormpages.com) might be screwing up my website somehow. someone with HTML experience check out http://apocalypsenow.stormpages.com (http://apocalypsenow.stormpages.com) and view the source, and tell me if you think their banner or something is screwing up my site.
My site is very simple so far (just a title and a one sentence of writing), but nothing will show up in the browser.   :confused:    :confused:    :confused:

Hey,

The problem is you don't have a head section  or body section in your html.

It should be.

html

head

/head

body

Your info goes here

/body

/html
Since I am posting this to this forum I did not include the control characters < and > but they go at the beginning and end of each of those tags  except for your info of course.

<html>
<head>
<title>Super NETO!! </title>
<body>
This is the body
</body>
</html>

www.150megs.com (http://www.150m.com)
Provides 150 megs with one banner, and your url is shortened to "http://www."username".150m.com" Pretty simple to remember.

EDIT: Changed it from HTML to UBB.
EDIT: Fixed the URL, sheesh!

That's from my test site info Master, the url is  http://www.aaronennes.150m.com (http://www.aaronennes.150m.com)
As you can see it's the same as my tripod site, I scrapped it because there's no banner killer codes out there for 150m.com.  And if I'm right that's 3Gb bandwidth.

i know i'm a bit late in chiming in here, but as i say in the 'gold dust' thread, try nelie.org. they support email, and cgi, forums and so on, all for free, with no ads either, or so i believe.

I just got a free account with them, and it can be found at www.nelie.org/polytheism (http://www.nelie.org/polytheism) but it's really just a keeper page until i get the whole site together...

I think you have your YaBB configured wrong. I get the main page just fine but if I try and enter any of the forums I get:

Code: [Select]

And I get this in my Location bar:
Code: [Select]

Which to me indicates you have put too much in a config variable for the base URL.
