Title: the better choices
Post by: Stryker on 25 January 2005, 08:05
I'm working on a site that aims to promote alternative software. We are here to help people realize that there are better choices. Wether it be switching from AOL Instant Messenger to GAIM, or from Microsoft Windows to Linux. We try not to focus on how bad a company is, but rather how good their alternatives are. I think the idea of a more positive approach can help get the community taken more seriously. Anyways, I could use some help. I have the site up and its working well so far. Wrote a little tutorial for content, will work on more. But if someone is good with SMF I could use an administrator for it, or if someone wants to contribute articles. Or just keeping the forums active. Any help is welcome.

What can you do? I dont suppose your familiar with SMF at all? If not, we could use a moderator. Not that there's much to moderate yet.

I don't know a damned thing about SMF, lol.  But I know about moderating, and I know it's a good idea to have an extra one in place for the first ten, capice?   ;)

I can also get my ass in gear to contribute some articles, though that's going to be juggled between a busy class schedule and occassional work on my (currently halted) Linux / OSS book.

ooh, you're writing a book. cool, so i guess you know your way around the block. i'll set you as a moderator.

I plan on writing a few basic tutorials over the next few days to start with, but i'm no good with articles.

If you'd register on the site i can make you a publisher as well. If you register on the forum its supposed to do it on the site as well, but its not working right.

Hopefully, this assignment will help make this dream come true faster, in smaller, more digestable chunks of information - possibly resulting in a compilation-style CD/book (with the appropriate posters' permissions and credits, of course).  ;)

You know, it probably is, but I think it stands a better chance.

Just remember:

Thats what I first thought, but I don't want to be limited to open source.
