Title: Blocking my Browser
Post by: preacher on 6 June 2002, 13:20
I dont know about you guys, but Ive recently ran into quite a few sites that will not allow you to even browse through their material unless you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Unfortunately I use an alternative browser, usually either konquerer or Opera. Both of these have the ability to view 90% of the content available out there, so why did someone think that only those two browsers were worthy? Give me a break.

I use Opera for that very reason.
Whenever I find a site that doesn't let you veiw it or gives you trouble veiwing it unless you use Netscape or Intenet Explorer, I click File -> Quick Preferences -> Identify as MSIE 5.0 and use that for that particular site(like homestead.com, which works fine in Opera you just have to trick the site), when I'm done with that site I go back to identifying my browser as Opera.  I then email the webmaster of said site and hope he/she listens to me, most of the time they don't, but hopefully after enough complaints they will change there evil ways.

You can change the identity of Konqueror as well.  However, anything that uses a proprietary IE/Win plugin you will be out of luck.  Whenever I run across a site like that I send an email to the webmaster telling them how much their site sucks.
