In the final analysis, Be failed by sticking to the proprietary software model, attempting to beat M$ and Apple at the same game. They managed to hold on for quite some time, and that's amazing in and of itself. Had Be taken the BeOS open source, it probably wouldn't have ended up an also-ran.

I agree. Open-source would have probably been a bright idea for Be.
