You forgot to mention that there are plenty of "facts" out there that prove things from the bible
-
that's right.
however, many christians claim that those are real, and then claim that evidence for evolution, found via identical archaeological methods, is bunk.
YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
either this evidence points to something real, and the evidence supports the historic content in the Bible...
or
all of it is bunk and all we have once again is "a book"
I prefer the first one, myself. I'm not a christian anymore, but I have great reverence for the teachings of Jesus, who I think was really around.
you can't dispute that many events of the bible occurred
-
Yeah, no doubt Jesus existed, or at least someone like him, but it's like going about your business normally throughout your day and then coming home and thinking an invisible pink elephant was following you all day.
-
wouldn't it be cool if in like 3,000 years elvis replaced jesus!

One thing I don't understand is why fundamentalist Christians just can't seem to grasp the idea that many of the teachings of the Bible (Adam & Eve, etc) were what Native Americans call "medicine stories": stories that illustrate a spiritual point or wisdom, but are not to be taken as facts. Hence the mixture of history and myth; the writers assumed their readers had enough sense to tell a spiritual fables from historical chrocnicles.
