You're going to get some stick for this one my friend. Personally I agree with you and Mr Meacher. It takes all sorts don't it.

So? My wang is still giant TO THE EXXXXXXTREME. And that is all that matters.

The idea that Sept 11 2001 was allowed to happen solely for the purpose of giving the US an excuse to flex global domination muscle is about as silly as the conspiracy theorists who say that the US sacrificed the majority of the US Pacific Fleet in order to enter WWII.
However I will admit that I have seen no evidence of Iraq's involvement in the Sept 11 attacks, or of weapons of mass destruction. I have seen evidence that the US wants Iraq to start producing lots of oil again, and is working hard to make sure the new regime is US friendly.
-
If you have enough facts in your head and a too much time on your hands you can construct all kinds of conspiracy theories. The only thing stupider than constructing them is arguing about them. So shut up phreaks.

The US didn't even want to get involved in WWII
It was pearl harbour that finally made them realize it wasn't just about Jews, and Nazis.
so no they didn't sacrifice them, but that's still what it took.

yeah shut up!
didn't you know that when an american says a huge pile of rubbish and then tells everybody else to shut up, then it proves he's right?
it then gives him the opportunity to wait till people have replied to his obvious garbage and then claim he tried to be amicable, tried to back out etc.
fucking dicks, won't take responsibility for the shit they inflict on the world, and that's why the rest of the world is so fucked up now.
americans go home i say. and fucking stay there.
oh yes and shut up.

I do find it a little insulting you seem to label all americans this way. I'm sure you'll come back and say something like not all americans are like that or something, but posts like this make it seem that way and it is a little insulting when i've done nothing wrong to read over this hatred towards me.
nothing on this topic from me yet, tired of arguing at the moment (other thread).

I thought the most recent evidence on Pearl Harbour was that the Admiralty (I think that's a British term) knew that an attack was imminent, they had to let it happen otherwise American public opinion would have not have been conducive to entering WWII. Wasn't it the case that a certain admiral (can't remember his name now) was made a scape goat for Pearl Harbour, wasn't he exonerated some time after the war because of this evidence??

You have to quote me and disagree with me every time? You're that desperate to find something to blame your problems on that you have to attack America every time something remotely political comes up? Did you even try and see my point?? If you have an alternative point of view maybe you could just try saying it?

ya, the ENTIRE world is fucked up because of what america is doing/has done...
dude, get a grip. we are not the cause of the problems the world creates. there is plenty of blame to spread around, but why bother? why not fix it and DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE instead of bitching about how america sucks and how we are the cause of everything evil in the world. at least we are trying to fix the problems, you are just complaining because we can fix them faster then the world is creating them
-
I do agree that the US isn't to blame for EVERYTHING, but I don't think we are doing a whole lot to fix it either.
-
This is why the world is so fucked up: because people from everywhere, NOT JUST AMERICANS, are scumbags, SCUMBAGS WHO LIKE TO BLAME THEIR PROBLEMS ON OTHERS. NOW WHO DOES THAT REMIND ME OF????

america sucks because of bush. he's inflicting his conservative shit on the world, and letting corps take over the country here
(http://home.alltel.net/redrocker/images/busy.gif)
Calum, as much as I respect your opinions and views most of the time, I, too find it quite insulting that you blanket everyone in the U.S. as being an "opinionated yank".
But then, thanks Mr. Bush

Meacher was sacked by Blair because of his incompetance as environment minister.

This might be one motive for Meacher writing an inflamatory article about president Bush, since Bush is a close friend of Tony Blair.

Some Democrats were in favor of the war, too. Most of you people don't seem to know shit about what's going on.

Or maybe his 'incompetance' was an excuse to sack him. If you ask me, everything he says is so far very consistent with all the plans laid out by the PNAC. And his political motives do not change the fact that the USA is leaning towards corporatism.
-
The PNAC is not part of the US government.
What was that Winston Churchill quote again???
"The inherent vice of capitalism is
the unequal distribution of the blessings,
while the inherent virtue of socialism is
the equal distribution of the miseries."
Here's another one I like, from Phelps Adams:
"Capitalism and communism stand at opposite poles. Their essential difference is this: The communist, seeing the rich man and his fine home, says: 'No man should have so much!' The capitalist, seeing the same thing, says: 'All men should have as much!'"

Exactly, the difference is the capitalist doesn't grasp that it isn't possible for everyone to 'have this much' - thus no man should. Posting stupid things that right-wingers have said doesn't get you anywhere.
-
No. Capitalists say that those who are capable to get as much should get as much. Theoretically, it's a form of meritocracy (although the wealthy don't necessarily deserve that wealth).
quote:
The PNAC is not part of the US government.
Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush, Paul Wolfowitz and many others, including media tycoons, are part of the PNAC.

This discussion is extremely retarded.

Wrong. In America most people are rich compared to the rest of the world and own fine homes thanks to capitalism. Socialism and communism cause poverty. There are also both right wing and left wing capitalists.
>This discussion is extremely retarded.
If these people lived in America they would know what a great country it is and what a great economy it has even if it isn't purely capitalistic.
Read Jack Straw's speech here. See what he says about Iraq.

Also, Charles Darwin said "survival of the fittest".

all economic and political systems have both inherent benefits and flaws. over time, the flaws will undoubtedly float to the top.
there is no perfect system, there can't be, and there never will be.
but, all the opinions about bush aside... the FACT is that he's the worst president since the depression.
I for one am considering leaving the country if there's a second bush term. I probably won't, mainly because his economic and domestic policies have made it nearly impossible for me to find work.
as for the war on terror... I think it's rather hopeless. defeat these guys and more will show up. personally, I think that Bush is a christian bigot and just wants to say he had his own "crusade against the infadels"

Socialism and communism cause poverty.
Yes if you take poverty to mean "not having money" but money isnt important - what it gets you is. Just by becoming a communist country you do not lower the amount of resources your country has, nor will other countries stop trading with you. You can still give off all those useless rocks your country has for another countries food and other crap you want so its not like you have less resources at your disposable - just a different way of distributing those resources.

Is the war on terrorism bogus?

What, it isn't bogus because there are a lot of Muslim terrorists around?
Have you read Aesop's fable of the Wind and the Sun? It's quite simple so even a republican should be able to understand it. Maybe there wouldn't be so many angry terrorists if reactionary idiots like you and Bush realised that the best way to deal with an deadly hornets' nest is not to go pissing on it.
[ September 09, 2003: Message edited by: flap ]
-
The article said that the war against terrorism was bogus. Terrorism does indeed exist, but Bush's 'war against terrorism' is only an excuse to execute his political agenda.
Terrorism is the result of colonial western countries meddling in the affairs of other countries, and the poverty of Middle East countries comes from the West messing up their economy by grabbing their ressources. Essentially, the fallacious rhetoric of Bush and the PNAC neo-conservatives is that they are going to bring global peace under the American behest by going to war against the very problem they caused in the first place.

You people who call yourselves leftists are liars. You are really just cowards. Real leftists want to help the poor and those in need.

Why do you think leftists are liars? What does this have to do with helping the poor? Right people also give to the poor. Do you even know for sure what right and left is? This is a pretty unclear classification, isn't it?
