Which company you think if it can, it will start doing dirty politics like MS does?
In other words, which Linux company you think cannot be trusted?
-
Caldera, because they won't let us link to them. (http://smile.gif)
-
it has to be a Linux Company... Lindows.
-
Most definitely Lindows!
-
Has lindows put out ANY source code yet?
-
Lindows seemed to be able to defeat MS in court when they were sued for copyright infrigement; I wonder what the settlement was? That ALONE would make me leery of Lindows!
-
It was actually a "trademark" case, not a "copyright" case. M$ didn't have a leg to stand on really, just more bullying. The outcome was that Lindows got to continue to use the name "Lindows" and "lindows.com". If there is more to it than that anyone can add to it...
-
So what is this Lindows I keep hearing about anyways?
-
Probably the worst thing that could happen to Linux and OSS by most indications. Here is their web site: http://www.lindows.com/ (http://www.lindows.com/)
-
when you fill out a form on their site, you must check a box that confirm that you know that lindows is not associated with Microsoft.
If you sign up as an insider for $100 you only get the click and run program for two years.

Don't see what's so bad about Lindows. Of course I don't see what's so good about it either.
-
well, they arent releasing their source code, which should be against the GPL as they are integrating WINE into Lindows and WINE is covered under the GPL and since they modified it and put it in Lindows, it should therefore have to be opensource (or at least any parts of WINE that are in it should be opensource).
Second they are making it so every user is doing everything as ROOT and this poses as fucking serious security risk, and opens the computer to a hell of a lot of evil things. When Lindows contracts swarms of viru and such this will make the Linux community look bad.
Then they are doing weird things like MS does like only letting you use a program for a certain amount of time (you only get click 'n run for 2 years if you are an insider).

wow, whats with the cheesy mac navigation rip-off on lindows site. Anyways, lindows seems like a horrible idea. i wouldnt use it.

Holy shit! Even I can tell that Lindows must suck. Trying to improve Wine and intergrate it into the GUI is a FUCKING GOOD IDEA! But besides extra user friendliness, Lindows sucks. So who's gonna legally stop them from abusing the GPL? Coulden't that EFF(you know the d00dz with the blue ribbon thang) start a lawsuit against them(they kinda defend those who cannot defend themselves over digital issues) to defend the integrity of open source and GPL?
-
ummm, the eff has bigger issues to deal with right now, like the dmca. maybe the FSF could rip them a new asshole, cuase it would be perfectly legal if they do as they are accused
