ha my uptime is higher than all of yours.... what about void main, isnt he gonna put it in his sig?
-
Naa, just another invite for hackers... I'll tell you my uptimes on my servers but I won't have them automatically bragging about it in a public database. You'll notice I've never given anyone here links to any of my servers. But I have bragged about some of my uptimes (at a small risk). You can actually find my uptimes in netcraft.com if you knew what web sites I am responsible for (which no one here will know).

if your servers are properly secured you should have no worries about crackers.

Not true. If your servers aren't connected to a network, don't have any disk drives in them, are turned off, and locked away in a vault, *then* you probably don't have to worry about crackers/hackers. The day you stop worrying about crackers is the day you get cracked. Security is a multi faceted, living breathing concept. And it is something that I have much experience with and take seriously.

I see... well i dont think any one will crack 205.92.81.80, not that i care if they try to crack 205.92.81.80

Yeah, but what about 204.92.?.??
[ November 16, 2002: Message edited by: void main ]

hmmmmmmmm.... that would be a bad IP address to try to crack. Not hard to find my IP though if you have a little common sense.

What do you mean it "used to be"? I can still pull images from it. Confused...
-
204.92.81.80?
-
Yeah man...
-
Never mind. I thought you posted the same one I originally posted (and since wiped out). I won't post it again but it's easy to figure out. (http://smile.gif)

What exactly is uptime? No one I ask ever gives me a straight answer.
-
how much time your computer has been up(on).
from dict.org:
1 definition found
From WordNet (r) 1.7 :
uptime
n : a period of time when something (as a machine or factory) is
functioning and available for use [ant: downtime]

More precisely on computers it is uninterrupted uptime (the system can not be turned off, rebooted or crashed). It's a contiguous amount of time that the machine has been turned on and the operating system running normally. As soon as you reboot your uptime starts over at 0. I recently had one of my servers up for 490 days straight until an extended power outage (6 hours) and it has been up 157 days since the power came back on.
If you are running MacOS X I'll bet you have an uptime command just like ours on Linux that will give you your uptime.
