All i can say is haha.
Breaking News article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2150320.stm)
--------------------------------------------
The world's largest media firm, AOL Time Warner, has admitted the US financial watchdog is investigating its accounting practices.
News of the investigation overshadowed the fact that the firm has reported its first profit since completing its mega-merger.
Despite the strong results, fears over the inquiry sent AOL shares 7% lower in after- hours trade, despite the broad gains in the rest of the markets.
The investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission is in response to allegations in the Washington Post that the firm boosted online advertisement revenue through a series of "unconventional" deals between 2000 and 2002.
The investigation is still at the preliminary "fact-finding" stage.
That means there is no proof that AOL has been involved in the same sort of accounting deceptions that brought down Enron and WorldCom.
But such a fact-finding investigation was the first step that unravelled those firms.
AOL Time Warner has said in a statement that all its transaction have been in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
More soon.

The IRS nabbed Al Capone
I guess the SEC is going after the new "mobsters"

I actually like AOL Time Warner. They're one of the few companies that most idiots use, and they always try to combact with Microsoft. So it's either Microsoft or them.

that includes you.

I can only see AOL battling MSN, which is not even much of anything to worry about. Once AOL releases a legitimately stable OS that can run on the PC platform is when I'll consider them a combatant of MS itself.
Anyway, I dislike how AOL TW is reaching it's tentacles everywhere and buying everything. It's about time someone put them in check, in my opinion.

I'm still right, though. They're going to use mozilla in the next version of AOL, aren't they?
Ass clown.

that doesnt make them any less capitilist or evil. Its kinda like when Hitler wanted to "brighten" his image by hosting the 1938 Olympics and tried to boast his countries abilities by sending the TV signals into space. (it was 1938 right?)
-
They're not as capitalistic and evil as microsoft. At least that's my opinion.
-
no, there arent quite a monopoly yet. But they will be the next monopoly if/when microsoft dies.
-
a monopoly over what? I would never use AOL broadband. No idiot would. Well, a few idiots would, but not enough. And shoudn't we give them the benefit of the doubt?
-
Hrm the only way i think that AOL Time Warner will comeback up in the stockmarket is by making movies... Austin Powers in Goldmember pushed them up 20 points or so didn't it? Also, RoadRunner might help them too because I hear so many people Raving about it daily. So in conclusion movies and RoadRunner will make their money. Also if I was them I would start charging money for AIM screennames ;) they've got a sh!tload of users on AIM...

I would not matter a nats cock if AOL Time Warner went bust or to jail. AOL is not a monopoly, just a very big company.
For Internet stuff I can choose not to use them, and still get high quality. For entertainment, I go to clubs, to shows, to live gigs, to concerts and recitals (yes my taste is that diverse), I buy cd's from labels like Impulse, for Jazz, Hedkandi for some seriously good chill-out type stuff, and any small label doing reissues of stuff is always good. AOL have little if any affect on my life - I don't use their products because I don't need to consume like a pathetic Golem under someone else's control.

the five dollar local isp is much better than aol access.
what does an internet company need with owning tv channels? --to advertize for their isp
aol broadband = time warner cable access-- plus paying to use the bloated aol front end
aol, so easy to use, no wonder we steal all your money
