Who would you like to see as a moderator, i dont want or need a place in the Windows Operating Systems forum. If you want to mod there just say so, it could just happen!

Hey, XP I mean Linux User #88238234 could be the mod. Nothing like having a fresh convert moding the Windows forum.  (http://smile.gif)

I wouldn't mind, i'd be honored but i wouldn't ask you for the chance. the bobs are confusing me lately, i dont know which one is saying what. (i guess it doesn't matter though, they are all bob right?) xp user may be a good one, but his previous behavior i'm not so sure about though. granted people do change, and i'm not bashing him by any means. I haven't been here long enough to know all that went on, xp user seems alright as far as i can tell.

Is that a well structured paragraph or what  ;)

no offence to xp user, but in light of his original sentiments i don't think i would want him as a mod yet. as X11 proved recently modding has serious consequences if used incorrectly, and while we are only talking about one new mod for one forum (the windows one) i think it's important to make it somebody who's got a long standing record of consistency.
i don't know that the likes of void main or macman would want to use up their time modding the windows forum.

If the Windows section is the only one I can get I'll definitely take it. Besides, my geekishness and lack of life gives me plenty of time to be a moderator.

no, he's been away for quite a while though...

as for who should be a mod, i still say macman. sorry, but i don't know if i want xp user to mod the windows forum, myself, since i still remember his original attitude on here. i'm a cautious person to start with though, i remember having doubts when i found out x11 was to be a mod (and some would say (though not me, not really) that those doubts have been borne out.

As for Billy G's comments about how a mod here does nothing, might i point out that the best moderation of a forum will be completely invisible to the normal posters. i don't think i'd make someone a mod if they thought there was nothing to be done.

It's all about being vigilant and keeping the place tidy. I suppose it's also about starting relevant topics when something new comes up, but i think that happens on this forum enough that mods don't really need to worry about it.

Yeah yeah, if i sound like a stuck up arse, then sorry, i just think that what with the recent accident in the linux forum with us STILL missing about six months of posts, which i don't think will ever return, we need to be a bit careful about who gets to moderate what.

Personally i am not sure there should even be a public thread about it, although i applaud the spirit of democracy behind the fact that there is.

I agree with Calum, i could understand calum being worried about me modding when i first started and i have done 1 major fuck up, but that was a accident and i did own up.

I was worried about some of the other people that i wont mention moderating, and macman would be a good addition to the MES Modding team. I still think the Quirk has good values on freedom of speech, and also has a sense of humor. He would by far in my opinion be the first person I would add if i where the webmaster. On the second hand there is Tux who is also a very good member, contributing lots.

However i don't like the attitude of the mods sometimes: example (http://forum.fuckmicrosoft.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=000285) (warning - large images, not for dial up)
Your lucky, I responded to the Webmasters request for people who wanted to mod after seeing it. I actually asked not to moderate the lounge, and i would have made that irresponsible abuse of the forum right again by linking the images. That thread is the biggest signs of ignorance on the forum.

On a good note, its nice to see that after the Linux/Unix incident (which i will refer to as the "Big Fuck-up"), that the moderators and forum members found a solution. (Maybe its because i moderate there    ;)    ).

Our goal is not to create a political community, but to bash Microsoft. But moderating is needed but is also not needed because of the current lack of trolls. However there have been other times where we have laid back no expecting trolls where they have appeared. I think a zero tolerance act against them will fix them. Fuck there freedom to speak, if they want that... they can goto another forum, or create there own. A scottish dude can do it (http://www.polytheismforum.tk) so anybody can. A SkRiPt0r can do it (http://www.belg88.com) so why not do that if your a troll.

Productivity should be our first proirity.

x11, is this a tit for tat flame war you are starting here? i honestly think you are a very good moderator here, as i think your intentions are good, which is what matters in the end after all. well maybe i better shut up. anyway, i didn't mean any slur on you at all.

However this example of yours is not in any way an abuse. This derives directly from the days when zombie90210 used to post huge screenshots in every thread, and none of the moderators stopped him. Those were bad days and i think that haviong ONE SINGLE THREAD where people post their screenshots is a very good idea. and so is warning peopl ein the title about the image content within. How many 'look at my kewl desktop' threads might have been started if i hadn't made it all one thread? notice how popular the screenshots thread is? i bet quite a few of those people would have started individual threads (probably with no warning in the title) had they not had this avenue to go down instead.

If these forums become all rules and no enjoyment then there is LITTLE point.

PS: i just realised that you yourself have been more irresponsible by posting that 'example' with no warning that it would take the person to a page with a lot of images. what if somebody had clicked that link unwittingly, who was using a 9600 baud modem? good job i added a warning after the link in your post.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

You have a point there X11. Being one of the "poor people" (still on dialup), I have to agree with that.

x11, i have made many points above about why what you say is completely incorrect, if you choose to descend into this banal dialogue then I will not waste any more energy on this futile topic.

People can post images images images images images images (i said images six times, since you appear to believe in a very immature way that that proves something, so my extra three repetitions makes me right) in one thread which contains a warning in the title. people on dial up are warned and if they go there, then it's their lookout. if they want to see the images then the waiting time adds up the same in the end anyway, and i guarantee you it's a fucking boring thread without seeing the images.

And there's NO NEED to insult people for no reason other than you want to vent your spleen.

on second thoughts, you know what? i vote that we make X11 the only moderator of the lounge, and we can the screenshots thread. then we'll see how he fucking copes. the lounge sees the most traffic on this site by far, and i'm sick of X11 moaning about what a shit moderator i am, and then fucking deleting half the unix forum. sorry, i was ready to forgive and forget about that but if you want a flame war, x11, you'll get one.

My problem is that even with a screenshot thread, they should be linked... that way more people can look at them and I would be willing to post some of my own screenshots there.

But i cant join in because of the bandwidth problem, if i ever moderate the lounge, that thread will be fixed by me and kept that way.

But of cource the people modding the Lounge are:

Webmaster - Never here
Calum - Thinks its okay because he has been going there since the "beggining of it" and the images are in his cache
M0R - On Cable or somthing, doesnt care
psyjax - ???, Doesnt seem to care...

But there is one spare slot, maybe i should jump at it.

dude i never said your a bad mod, your one of the best, and you keep this place on the thin balance of sainity. WHat more could i ask but not excluding people on dialup!

Thats all i think should be done, and if im the only mod of the lounge, i can go into the moderator cp and disable images altogether in the lounge.... So go ahead... Im happy to mod the lounge...  ;)

I've been here all the time, just not posting really.  Though in reality I've been doing lots of research and studying in the chemistry field.  My latest projects have been...

Chlorate production cell (3 H2O + KCL --->Electricity---> KCLO3 + 6H)

Nitrocellulose sythesise being finetuned. (30ml H2SO4 + 25Grams KNO3 + 2Grams Cellulose(Toilet Paper) --->Wait 10 minutes---> Nitrocellulose (Commonly known at SmokelessPowder.))

Organic peroxide study.

H2SO4 production still (KNO3 + Sucrose --->Burning--->Funnel gas into H20----> H2SO4 + ?) Still havent figured out the waste products on that.

And my favorite attempt at distillation, distilling Nitric Acid!  :D   (H2SO4 + KNO3----->HNO3 + NO + Other waste.)

But yeah.. I havent been doing much with computers though.  Go check my site (http://aaronennes.tripod.com) and see an Elftor comic strip!  :D   The  www.elftor.com (http://www.elftor.com)  site is being moved for now but really, check it out when it's back up!
