edit: i had to put the :8000 at the end to get it to work, by the way.

Ecsyle:
You can link to the battle images, and anything else you want. You have to link to the wallpapers page somewhere tho...and I will link to you if you want.
The full link for those that are having problems:
www.akgames.net (http://www.akgames.net)
People still use Windows 95!?
And thankfully, Windows 2000 overtook Windows XP.

i will link your site under "artists". i will probably put it online later today.

In the "Conformity" image, what effect did you use to do the "bar" in the middle (that the text was on). Did you lighten it up, and then do a motion blur? It kinda looks like that.
Another stupid question: how did you do the text?

the bar was a copy of the image below it, with a motion blur, and i think it was a "screen" blending. You were correct on the method. the text was white with a drop shadow, then i lowered the opacity on just the layer and not the effect. and the picture was part of a set i took on monday. the whole image took about 30minutes.

Click on that link! 66.67% of people are using Windows to access that site! The same percentage are using IE! I would like some non-windows users on there.
Interestingly, all of the other OS users (all Mac users) were also using a non-Microsoft browser (Mozilla and Netscape).
I put in a lot of work for this update. If you have any suggestions, there are e-mail links on the page.

Did you mean to link us to your wallpapers section? I went to www.akgames.net:8000 (http://www.akgames.net:8000) to get to your homepage, which looks really good btw.

Ah. I don't have that kinda cash to be blowing on programs. Bryce 5 full was like $58 with my student discount. Photoshop is around $270...
How much was 3DS Max? 2k?

Well, last year was a good year for freelance work. max costs around 6000. im actually using a copy from work. i called autodesk, told them that i am the only person using at the office (which i am) and that i tend to bring a lot of work home. "can i have a license??" they said sure, no problem...so here i am. i do need to get my own copy, but at 6000, its not going to happen today. i am still paying off some computers (my g4 & iBook). i cant use educational software either because i am making money from it. this is where we get into the "why don't you use open source software???". because there is no animator/modeler for linux that can touch max, same for illustrator or photoshop. my opinion.
-
Yeah...software is WAY too expensive...
I want Lightwave ($1,595) and Poser 4 ($174) still...
I don't even have a Mac desktop computer on which to use this stuff! An AGP/Digital Audio will set me back 650-1000.
If only money grew on trees...
-
Damn, if I had the money I'd be doing all that 3D crap. The only reason I can use Photoshop is because I bummed it off my friend (and I'm not even going to ask where he got it). Some day...
-
macman, try this: http://www.macgimp.org/ (http://www.macgimp.org/)
i didn't look at it too much since i don't have a mac, and i don't know anything about 3d design, but it looks like an osx port of gimp, meaning you get all that photoshop stuff for free, legally, more or less.
might be worth a try anyway? also, if photoshop doesn't run natively yet (don't know if it does, but if it does why isn't it on linux? ) in osx, it's something to consider?
-
Photoshop 7 is OS X native (6 might be, I dunno)
-
Yeah its really annoying to have to wait thirty seconds for Classic to start up to be able to do anything on Photoshop. I'm not complaining though, I'm very fortunate to have that program.
And thanks for the link, Calum. I had no idea Tux was created with GIMP. I looked at the site's gallery and I've been keeping track of the stuff you guys have made and GIMP has a nice look. I'd be interested in downloading it, but it says on the download page "this module isn't active." That's okay, they can't keep it from me forever! (http://www.taoofgaming.com/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif)
-
what a shame! i never noticed it wasn't available yet.
people say gimp is not as good as photoshop but i personally haven't found gimp in any way unsatisfactory (but then i am in *no* *way* a graphics power user) still, the fact is that the gimp is being developed a lot faster than photoshop is, so sooner or later (i suspect sooner) gimp will actually overtake photoshop (but the windoids will take 5 to 10 years to notice)
edit: macman, you can *buy* macgimp for (drumroll please) $29.95 this page here (http://store5.esellerate.net/store/Layout8/Catalog.asp?StoreIDC=STR228073359) and they will mail it to you. compare that with the umpty tum thousand dollars you guys were talking about before!

is their a good modeler/animator for linux?? i had heard rumors about Maya on Linux (that would fucking rock!) but i havent been motivated enough to actually look for it.
-
i have to pay with money? damn!

BUMP
I updated the site again...worthy of bumping...

Hey Dustin, I downloaded all four of your water scape pictures and used the Pictures Folder screen effect to make a cool screen saver. Now they enlarge and fade into each other. It looks really nifty (anyone who wants to do this, remember to click the Keep slides centered check box or it won't work, and keep fading on as well).
