Hi.
May you all have a prosperous and healthy
2003.
And may the world know peace and may
common sense prevail.
Let us go out and actively target
Micro$haft and Palladium (the most uncommon
of all senses!)

Yes. Everybody have an enjoyable day arbitrarily agreed upon as some indicator to a new period of time.
Oh.... Love and Peace. (and crabs.. Dunno what kind. Parasitic crabs on the genitals I suppose. And lots of them)

Lets make 2003 even more of a nightmare for Microsoft than 2002 was.

i think you have it mixed up with Christmas (http://www.polytheism.cjb.net/christmas.html). New year is quite obviously the point when an old year has finally ended and a new one begins. This sensibly happens in the middle of winter. It should logically happen on the winter solstice, but many civilisations follow the Norse lead of having about a week of festivities to see the new year in and i think a nine or ten day offset is perfectly acceptable so long as everybody knows about it and accepts it.
and i could have sworn this topic was originally called 'happy 2004' (?)

And yet new year could easily be at the end of summer, or middle of fall, or whenever the hell it really feels like since it's the same time a year 'round whichever way you look at it.
Christmas started as just another christian holiday taken from pagan ceremonies in an effort to increase the number of followers. (All Hallows Eve/All saints day being another one that comes to mind) Of course, Christmas has now become a marketing ploy. Without Christmas or some similar holiday, it seems as if our economy would tumble. After all, The day after Thanksgiving is called black friday because it's said that that's the day when thier accounting books come "from out the red". But it has also seemingly mutated into some secular holiday or sorts. A conveniently designated time when families of any religion or creed can share time with family and take thier mind off life and celebrate humanity in general. I'd feel sad to see christmas go, no matter how too damned commercialized it becomes.

Amen, can we talk about making this year HELL for microsoft?

Hey now. There will be time for that later. This is the lounge after all.
