Title: Some input on an ethical issue of mine, if you can call it ethical..anyway
Post by: Bazoukas on 16 December 2002, 21:52
We had to do a final project, which is due early Monday morning.
Our group is made up of 4 people including me.

The project was to write a C++ program that will inlcude small codes from different C++ topics. One function would deal with arrays,, another one with pointers and yada yada.

I told the guys this:"WRITE WHAT EVER PIECE OF CODE YOU WANT, no matter what it is, and give it to me. If its too simple I will add things to it, if you find that difficult, just copy a program from the book and  I will alter it."

Only the girl did that. The other two, didnt do jackshit. I was ready to overlook that, as long as they showed up at the girls apartment so we can talk who is gonna present what.
ALL of the PP presentation was made by me, ALL the code was writen by ME. I even wrote the pseucode for the, so they will know tomorow what to say.

None of them showed up. Well one showed up, but he came after we waited for him for 2 hours, at that time, I was already at the door and left.

Now am thinking, that I gave them big latitude and I was very flexible, but they just pissed on me and the girl all these months.

What I wanna do tomorow after the presentation and after class, is to call them all up and tell word by word the situtation.  Having a free ride like that would be plain stupid from my part and the girls part.
REMEMBER, if they would show up tonight, I wouldnt be upset at all, but they just wrote us off.

Should I nail them to the instructor and me and the girl take the credit we deserve or what?

Thank you.

Bitch to the instructor and get the credit you deserve and they don't. I've been there, and made the aformentioned decision and I'm happy I did.

e he he.
Well I like to be flexible and easy going with other people. But sometimes people think I am stupid and a moron when I show such kind
of flexibility.  Thats when I get extremly  nasty  and bad tempered and I have never let anybody get away with it so far. I just hate being the class snitch If you will.
I was one of the bigest troublemakers at High School and I never snitched on anybody, but this is kinda different.

They will get their ass chewed tomorow. I wont go behind their back. What ever I say to the instructor, they will be present so they
can hear it first hand.

Don't end up like I did tho... I always ended up doing all the work and taking zero credit because the people I covered for were either more popular or sleeping with the instructor...

People always wondered exactly WHY their dopesmoking parties always got busted, im sorry... was that just revenge???  ;)

As the only slacker/geek that doesn't have depression problems in the world, I've been on the opposite end of this. There've been many group assignments where I've done absolutely nothing and I've gotten through most of them unscathed until just recently when the guy who did all the work was absent the day of our presentation and me, being the only other guy in the group, had to do the presentation by myself without knowing a damn thing. It was very embarrassing and now I wish I had gotten into better group work habits in the past.

Turn in these guys so they learn their lesson before something like this happens to them. Or you could just let them shoot themselves in the foot if you really don't like them.

Begin the presentation by giving credit where it is due (You and Girl) and point out that you were let down by those not mentioned.

Be bold, be public and fuck 'em all.

zooloo

PS... if they didn't do it then don't let them put their name to your work.  Submit it as by "Me and Girl".

Well i wanted to avoid any drams in class. I told the instructor before hand what happened, and told her, just look what will happen during the presentation.
Needless to say, they made a complete asses of themselves. The damn thing was projected with huge letters on the wall and still they didnt know of what to make of it, even with the comments next to the code.
I even had to correct few times.
It kinda felt good though. Most people thought it was a group effort and they really liked it, (it took 30 min to do the presentation). Basically I was taking the whole credit for my self and for the girl with out them knowing it. The girl did 5% of it, but still she did SOMETHING and that for me counts. She doesnt even have a PC at home and has two kids!!!!!

It doesnt matter that the rest didnt know who did all the work, it felt prety damn good when I heard all the good comments, and on top of that knowing that the instructor knew who actually did the whole thing.

show no mercy, that is what most people's problem is, they are afriad to end up looking like an asshole. or they let people walk all over them thinking that its no big deal and it would only be more problems to do something about it. that is the wrong way to go, its too bad that the girl is involved. it takes the BOFH approach out of the question. if the instructer doesn't care to do anything about it or trys to tell you , that you are bullshitting  him and that they are just so absolutly wonderful, take the choasforages approach/*when im in a bad mood  :D */ "no mattter how miserable you are, those surronding you can always be made more miserable then yourself" i will let you come up with ways to apply this theory
