Actually I'd be prepared to believe that, considering the sheer volume of bloat in MS software. For example, if Microsoft writes a piece of software that's 20 times bigger than it needs to be (http://www.wurtel.cistron.nl/bloatware.html), then even if it has, say, 10 times the number of bugs than the Unix equivalent has, it can still boast "fewer bugs per line".
