Microsoft just lost their law suit against Sun Microsystems and have been ordered to pay $1.6 billion dollars to Sun and make Windows compatible with Java. I will give you a link when I find it.

That amount isn't even a third of its R+D department's budget!

and also it's a long time payment. so it has even less affect on MS, but it's a huge amount of money none the less.
