How do you put those little icons on your website?
Ya know like on Bravenet, www.thepublicinternet.org, (http://www.thepublicinternet.org,) and other sites?
-
Isn't it actually .com not org.
And I thought you just copied the code into your web page code.
-
what little icons?
-
oh you mean in the address bar.
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">
-
Thats exacly what i mean, now what format are they!
-
http://www.favicon.com/ (http://www.favicon.com/)
-
So what format are they?
-
The format is actuall several images bundled together, therefore you need a tool to make them.
Not surprisingly there is a free linux tool for making these:
PNG2ico (http://www.winterdrache.de/freeware/png2ico/index.html)

Did you go to the link I gave you? It's in the FAQ. The format of a favicon.ico is basically the Microsoft ICO (ICON) format, which contains a 16x16 and a 32x32 image within the ICON.
Here's a tutorial using the "png2ico" utility which might give you a better idea of the format. If you want an even deeper idea of the format, look at the source to "png2ico".

Like Tux mentioned in the previous message.
