Title: Another Way
Post by: Jenda on 15 May 2005, 23:55
I wrote a story about Freedom. I attached it here, because I thought this would be a good place to look for feedback.

In the story, which might yet chage a lot before i consider it complete, Freedom is symbolicised by wings - and means usage of Free Software. Walking, of course symbolises Windows. I guess you'll figure out most of the other allegories.

Hope you ppl like it.

Wow, that text is loaded with so many examples analogous to the current IT industry!

Some of the characters did not load correctly in gedit, but might have if i opened it in OpenOffice... i'm not sure

Mind if i put it in the 'articles' section of my site as a perfect analogy to what I try to explain to those just starting out?

Of course I don't. On the contrary. I'll send you the .odt or .doc versions if you email me at jendavancura-nospambecauseIreallyhateit,butthereshouldbean"at"signhere-gmail.com

This is what happens when you make a text file in Microsoft Notepad :)

I agree - .odt's are GOOD... nevertheless, I made it in Open Office...

You can already attach OpenOffice 1.1.x writer files I think it would be agood idea to update this to OO 2.0 as well as allowing drawings, spread sheets, and other OO files.

yep, openoffice files are a good standard to use since the openoffice program is free for everybody to use, is *properly* cross platform (unlike txt, doc etc programs) and people who come here are quite likely to have it installed on their computer already.

either that or the (admittedly closed) pdf format would be good too, since the documents tend to look the same across platforms and readers, and you can make pdfs just as easily with openoffice.org too.

So anyone else read it? I'm eager to hear what you think about the idea and/or new ideas to add to this parallel. BTW, those who have read it, did you figura out what Swimmers are?
