Didn't they do this a long time ago with the XP activation?  

Anyway, the more draconian Microsoft gets the better.  That means more people installing Linux or buying Macs.

That's really unfortunate.  I feel so sorry for those multi-billionaires who are losing a few million dollars to piracy.  That's like me dropping a quarter on the ground and not bothering to pick it up.

Closer to cutting a penny in half and dumping one piece.

I'd have to wonder who this is really going to effect... anyone who for some reason needs Windows and doesn't want to pay for it and has a drop of knowledge pirates Win98SE, not XP.

Actually, I wonder if they are getting shafted by their OEM licensing, and mistakenly think it is the home users at fault.  Oh well, doesn't affect me!
