Wow, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a fine example of philanthropy when it can't even pay fair rent for its headquarters!
The Seattle Center - Seattle's premier landmark - was also marred when Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen constructted the world's ugliest structure on the premises. Though officially a music museum, the Experience Me Performing museum was really built to give Seattle's biggest ego a venue for his comically lame jam sessions.

I wouldn't call the EMP the world's ugliest structure. I was absolutely amazed by it. There's nothing else like it in the world - it's like seeing a little bit of Bizzaro-world right there in the city.
Even more interesting is the skate park nearby - funded by a grant from Pearl Jam. I was impressed by their small bit of philanthropy.

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinions, but many Seattleites regard the EMP as an eyesore. The most amazing thing about it is that Paul Allen actually built it with his own money, whether than stealing the funds from taxpayers. At least, that's the official story...

scared of your empire falling? invest in gobs of real estate!

Especially if you can get the taxpayers to foot the bill.
