Indeed it is. Was it 98, though?

Clearly. Look at the icons and the Windows graphic in Internet Explorer.

Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft so I'm not suprised at all.

It wasn't any better when it was supported. But it still don't surprise me.

I meant the one in South Park.

Windows 98 is STILL supported by Microsoft until 2006. They extended it. Google gets something like 33% of its pageviews from Windows 98 machines.

Urghhh... Really? That's terrible - and I always thought suicide was not a solution!
-
Yeah, they will end its support along with ME next year.
Microsoft planned to discontinue its support for Windows 98 on January 16, 2004. However, due to the continued popularity of the operating system (27% of Google's pageviews were on Windows 98 systems during October-November, 2003 [1]), Microsoft decided to maintain support until June 30, 2006. Support for Windows Me will also end on that date. - Wikipedia.
However every time they discontinue support and updates for their older operating systems, impoverished users with older hardware fare a higher chance of switching to an alternative to Microsoft Software. I say that, however I still know plenty of people who run Windows 95.

Do you think this error could becaused by a shit installation?
We have a PC at work still running MS-DOS, it's a 486 I think, they should really consider FreeDOS but no one cares as it's only used for really old legacy programs.
-
A shit installation by default, yes. There are no errors on the disc I installed it from, and the install gave me no errors.
-

it's surprising that ME even had support. ME was the worst OS ever! :fu:

Argh. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. My family invested (wrong word) in a Windows ME computer a few years back, and quite frankly I have never been the same. It is horrid crap, and I think Microsoft should be charged for Crimes Against Humanity for releasing it.
-
I find this thread quite ironic for this forum, normally we bitch about Microsoft not supporting things, now we want them to stop supporting Winblows 98/ME. :D
I think you have a right to bitch about the Windows update thing though, MS should either support thier products or not, they shouldn't fuck us around like this. Anyway I'd support their decision for them to stop supporting their DOS based operating systems, and the quicker they do this the better.
-
Personally I think they should support it for as long as it is popular. If people are using it not supporting it could damage the integrity of the Internet if they don't patch holes that are used by worms, etc.
-
You want them to support Shitdows98 forever?
I use it, but not by choice. Now if I could find one of those six hundred Ubuntu CD sets someone had sent to me...

Care to PM me an address and PC type (x86, 64-bit, or Mac)? ;)

Why not let Canonical pay for that?

I seriously believe Microsoft was pushing people into Windows 98 by sabotaging Windows 95 into ultimate slowness with the help of Windows Update.
There is no doubt they will try the same thing with Windows 98 and ME, and even Windows XP once Windows Vista is launched.
-
I dont believe Windows 95 even had Windows Update

It had in OSR 2, it's the Windows 95 version which came out in 1997.
-
Win-what?
-
But all the windows update stuff is activex based so all they need is to upgrade IE if it doesnt work. Of course MS has to *make* the updates for it

Interesting.
The issues could possibly be related to the fact that Windows Update was problably released with Windows 95 to help test it to get it ready for Windows 98. However I do not think that Microsoft intentionally making older versions less stable is unlikely.
-
I had no idea Windows Update was in 95. :O
-
You are not alone.

No need. Found one. I'm only wishing I'd printed off those Opera keys....
-
Guess what, though. You can't download IE for Win 95 anymore (at least not from MS). So no windows update. And those idiots at Symantec tied their virus definition updates into MSIE 6's libraries, so you can't put any form of norton antivirus that has current virus defs. on a fresh win95 install.

Me too... :scared:
