Does anyone know what OS microsoft uses for their web site? I noticed that apple.com on the bottom of the homepage, it says "powered by OSX server". What does MS use for their site? I doubt it is a microsoft os.

IIS 6.0 on windows server 2003, behind an akami (completely different company) caching server, running linux.
not sure it they are using that right now though.
-
If they really use windows, then why dont they say so like apple does?

They
Dont

www.netcraft.com (http://www.netcraft.com)

I think they shut off the cacheing, since Netcraft was providing hilarious "Microsoft.com is running on Linux" pages. :D

No, Akamai still hosts the site...

Pinging www2.microsoft.akadns.net [207.46.244.188] with 32 bytes of data:

I just tried that, indeed, you're right.
And all 4 packets timed out. :D
I guess Netcraft just manually changes it.

Microsoft have always dropped ICMP.

Maybe their ping timings were/are lousy. (http://redface.gif)

i think they used BSD awhile ago for some of their other sites. hotmail i know they did, maybe msn?

How sad is it, that sometimes MS can not use there own NOS?
