Title: Dell Ditty
Post by: cahult on 24 September 2005, 14:25
Have a look at this lemon. Dell has made what they call an iPod killer. When pigs fly and hens get teeth it will do that.

At least the site is hilarious!

I believe the Dell Ditty is far better, because it's got a FM tuner. Now I can listen to SLAM!FM when I get tired of my mp3's.

Because I buy an MP3 player to listen to the radio...

Come on, that's really one of the most tired arguments. "BUTT WHAET AUBOT TEH EFFIM TOONER???!?!/"

Nobody ever stops to think about the fact that radio = shit. Why listen to the radio's lesser quality with no control over what's played, have to listen to ads and other shlock, when you could just listen to what you really want to? Want to listen to the radio? They sell these little FM radios that are about the size of your freaking thumb now. You can find them at the dollar store.

BTW, don't forget that that's 220 songs at 64Kbps WMA for ultra great AM quality audio.

I wouldn't wish 64kbps audio on anyone.  That's just terrible.

Thank you Jimmy, for saving me an argument.

iPod <3  Just cram tons of music on there - more importantly, diverse material - and you're not likely to get tired of them.

EDIT: Oh yeah, how the hell does Dell get away with quoting capacity at 64kbps?  I don't care how bad your hearing is, that sounds like crap.  The lowest anyone can claim CD quality for is probably 128kbps MP3 (or 112kbps WMA/AAC/OGG), and that's for people with not-so-good hearing.  Personally, my favorite is 160kbps AAC.

I like 7MBit/s Audio :-P

What format is that?  If you rip a basic CD to WAV uncompressed, it's only 1411kbps.  Not even DVD-A reaches 7MB/s.

EDIT:i think it was 2-3 MBit/s

When I rip CDs to my computer, I encode at an average of 64kbps in Ogg Vorbis, and it sounds better than an MP3 encoded at 192kbps.

I just wish more ogg vorbis players were on the market.

Ogg Vorbis can save you a LOT of space, due to it being able to handle lower bitrates and still sound great ;)

For some reason I highly doubt that...

You would be suprised, 128kbps ogg's sound pretty damn good, thats what I use. Problem is I have to convert them to MP3 for my MP3 player. That is until I can afford an iPAQ or something that can run an OGG player.

That I can live with - 128kbps AACs sound good too.  But 64kbps OGG better than 192kbps MP3 (which actually does sound good)?  Yeah right.

When I had a 128MB Rio, I used 96kbps, because it would allow me to hold more songs.  But with a decent amount of storage, there
