The first FAT file system was developed by Microsoft in 1976.
Even if MS did create it, it certainly wasn't this early.
-
we have been doing this at college, ill get the slideshow with all the details on it.
-
I'm not even sure it was MS who created FAT, I have a feeling it was part of QDOS.
Edit:
I think this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table) clears up a lot of things - it's a very interesting read.
-
Idiot.
Seattle Computer Products made FAT12, and MS made FAT16 based off that.

Okay, that first bit was uncalled for. Now, continuing on, I don't see that Microsoft made that differentiation ANYWHERE on that site. Rather revisionist, wouldn't you say? *poke poke*

Who cares? They brought the rights to FAT12 long ago with QDOS. It's theres.

Ah, but innovation through purchases is nay but business sense. It is not, in and of itself, innovation. ;)

You mean people still use FAT?
-
I do for swapping files between XP and Lin.
waste of time tho since Linux can access NTFS now.
-
i still use fat. ive had bad experiances with ntfs. fat is more compatible with different devices and OS's.
-
Fat32 ROCKZ!
:) just kidding i like fat32 more than ntfs so i have 3 partitions as fat32 1 linux
and 1 ntfs :))

It's still the best for removable media, because it has robust, out-of-the-box support in all OSs. No other FS has that.

IBM JFS kicks your arse.
-
Their patent got denied again just a few days ago iirc

And Microsoft is a business, the only sense they will ever make is business sense.
Welcome to life.
