Title: Windows Mail
Post by: cahult on 10 October 2005, 04:50
Outlook Express is going out - Windows Mail is coming in. The name change also brings with it a set of changes, among other things the UI and a "Search as you type" thingie. Tha last thing, where have we seen that before? Oh yeah, Apple among other companies made that feature popular!.

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2005/10/09/outlook-express-renamed-as-windows-mail/

I think the new look stinks, as did the new look for Office, if you remember.

Funny, last I heard MS was going to drop real email clients from the OS bundle and point the mail api towards hotmail.

Change the name, change the UI, add irrelevant features: that's fixing things the Microsoft way.  :D

They're rebranding everything to "Windows".

ie MSN Messenger to Windows Live Messenger

It's all mind tricks on the regular home user "oh, this is the windows one".

Of course mind tricks only affect those with a weak mind ... like magic ... only magic's cool and M$ is not :D

What's next?! Windows Browser? Windows Explorer HA j/k...

Windows X instead of DirectX??

Seems to me as though they're scared of losing the name recognition of Windows... WHY?! For God's sake Windows (even for retards) is the most distrusted OS name in the industry. They probably think that people will get scared of using a Microsoft OS not named Windows. They underestimate their users, patronize them by having "Designed for Windows" stickers on every computer shipped. I'm getting a DEFINiTE feeling that Vista will flop like ME. I've installed and used BETA2... it only installed on 2 of the 6 computers I attempted and didn't even install Office2003.

Looks like they have an up hill battle for increasing security outside of a Network OS... Every program I opened that was not Microsoft a pop up appeared asking if I was sure that I wanted to use it.

OSes should be treated like we should be treating politicians: elect the ones who don't want to be in power. Microsoft isn't a software company though, all they are is a monopoly company. I like that. That should be someone's signature. Ok sorry for the rant heh.

... they'd have to do Window$ explorer for the file manager and Window$ Internet Explorer for IE ... and while they're at it they should change the start button to Start Window$ ... and My Window$ Computer ... don't you just hate that fucking 'My' prefix. My Computer ... My Documents ... My Bullshit ... well whose computer could it be someone elses ? Of course it's your fucking computer ! Maybe it's Blll Gates telling you it's actually 'my' computer as in Bill Gates' computer :D They should change 'em all to Bill's Computer cuz Bill ownz your ass !!!

Haha, "His Computer".
Why couldn't they just do it like the GNOME people... 'Computer (http://illhostit.com/files/3896762333262406/computer.png)', simple. Noone would be confused, H_TeXMeX_H and some others (me) would be happy...
The "My Music" and "My Videos"... They're the worst... So annoying, I always try to delete them folders and create simple "music" and "video" folders.

In my home folder I always create a "stuff" folder and then "music", "video", "sources", "websites", "programming", "crap" etc. folders. I could call them "My Music", "My Videos", "My Sources", "My Websites", "My Programming", "My Crap", but feck that.

I don't even have 'computer' on my Desktop. Too much clutter, I just have 'Macintosh HD'. If I want to access the disk, I can just click on the icon. OSX UI rules.

EDIT: If for some fucked up reason you want "Computer" to become "My Computer" on GNOME... http://illhostit.com/files/8949239363222618/my_computer_WTF?.png

Internet Explorer 7 tries desperatly to look like Opera, and Windows Mail is some kind of undead evil twin brother of Thunderbird.

Yeah how annoying. It reminds me of KDE, where every single app written for it starts with "K". Kmail, Kedit, Kopete, Kmplayer, K3b, Konqueror, Klipper....

Don't diss the big K. It's the "Kool Desktop Evironment" after all.

No, it's not.  It was only a nickname for about 5 minutes in 1996.  Nobody in KDE calls it that anymore.

And H_TeXMeX_H, I must say: posts like the one toadlife quoted really make you look like an idiot.  Perhaps you should grow up.

Yeah ... and it makes everything hard to find too ... cuz everything starts with a fucking K !!! AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH !!!

... everyone tells me to "grow up" ... oh, so you want me to assume the role of an adult, and act like adults do ... stay calm, be polite, have a point, be generous, be kind, be considerate, respect others, don't kill people, don't fuck your neighbor's wife (unless she's exremely, impossibly, and irresistably hot), don't do this, do this, on this day do this, on this day wear this, on this day think this, everyday think this, obey us, it is inevitable !!!!! :scared:

(I bet you're still thinking I should 'grow up', well I won't, I'll be myself however non-grown up I might be)

You don't need to do most of that stuff.  Just don't make yourself look idiotic. :p

Yes there' nothing wrong with going around being rude and selfish, killing people and fucking married women, but being childish is a cardinal sin around these parts. ;)

Well, fine, I don't see how I was being childish, but I'll try not to be. Was it the 'my' documents complaint ? ... they even made me do that when I was taking C++ classes, all the functions had my prefixes, and after forgetting to type the my prefix when calling the functions like at least 1,000,000 times, it really started to piss me off when my programs wouldn't work cuz I forgot the friendly my prefix ... I suppose that anger stayed with me so that I hate any 'my' prefix anywhere. But, ok, maybe it was a bit childish to get angry over such a seemingly insignificant thing as a 'my' prefix.
Title: Re: Windows Mail
Post by: WMD on 8 February 2006, 03:43
That's among your best posts.  Retain its content, please.  You don't have to shout out about the my prefix to hate Microsoft. ;)  Oh, and you used the $ a few too many times. :D

On another note, here I have "Macintosh HD" - it's Macintosh's hard drive, not mine?  What is Macintosh, anyway? :D

Mac is supposedly named after the McIntosh apple, a red and green colored apple ... I suppose that's where they got their older Mac apple emblem (it used to be red and green ... not anymore)
Title: Re: Windows Mail
Post by: WMD on 8 February 2006, 03:55
So...my hard drive is owned by fruit? :D

(I actually knew what they named the computer after, I was really wondering if "Macintosh" really was something tangible.  It's not...a more correct title would be "Apple HD.")
