Is that your wallpaper? (notices the 800x600 pixel size)
-
I believe there's a typo.
Hasta la vista.
-
i have 1024x768, its just a result from google after typing in windows vista
-
That wallpaper is cool (although badly done).
-
800x600?
That's gotta be a joke, get a 1600x1200 version! :D
-
its not my wall paper! its a random image i found on google

I can't live without 1600x1200, it's just sooo sexy. :D
-
i cant affored a 1600x1200 moniter
-
sry 1024x768 is the optimal for me :)
(couse of my desk's size)

I had a 15" 1994 Fujitsu ICL monitor before, could do 1280x1024 maximum.
Now I've got this 19" Dell D1226H, 1600x1200@72Hz, it rawks.
-
But at what refresh rate could your Fujitsu monitor do @ 1280x1200 was it a really flickery 50Hz?
-
1280x1024@60Hz, 1024x768@75Hz and 800x600@100Hz....
I hate 60Hz. :D
-
1280x1024@60 Hz
1152x864@75 Hz <-- Using this now
1024x768@85 Hz
800x600@85 Hz
-
1280x1024@60 Hz
1152x864@75 Hz <-- Using this now
1024x768@85 Hz
800x600@85 Hz
What model is your monitor?
And by which Manufacturer?
My current monitor does :-
1600x1200@72Hz <-- Current Resolution
1280x1024@85Hz
1024x768@100Hz
800x600@120Hz
640x480@150Hz
-
my moniter does
1280x1024@85 Hz
1024x768@85 Hz <----Using this
800x600@75-85 Hz
640x480@75-85 Hz
My video card does
1280x1024@60-75 Hz
1152x864@60-75 Hz
1024x768@60-85 Hz
800x600@43-100 Hz
640x480@43-120 Hz
I have a 17Inch BenQ V772
-
1280*1024*60 on the 19inch crt.
1024*768*60 on the seconary 17inch crt.
If they were LCD I would chuck them up a notch.

640x480@150Hz
It's a Highscreen monitor, and it's only sold in Vobis stores across Europe.
-
LeadHead,
I'm sure your video card does more than 1280x1024@85Hz, my shitty on-board card can do 1600x1200 32-bit @ 85Hz.
-
mine cant, it just cant, My old FX-5200 could managed up to 1600x1200 at 85Hz but this radeon 9600 Cant
-
How can you be sure it can't?
My card can do more screen modes than the ones listed in Windows and with Linux the list of modes varys from distro to distro as they ude differant drivers.
-
1152x864 @ 85Hz. Compaq V700.
In Windows I could make this setup do 1280x960 @ 85Hz - but in Linux I haven't been able to make it work. Modelines, refresh ranges, all that stuff. All it does is use that spanning mode where you move the mouse and the whole screen shifts....or 60Hz. Which I would never use.
-
it can do varios higher resolutions 1t 75Hz but no higher
-
1280x1024 on a 17" here, and on my laptop I have 1280x800 on 15.4" widescreen.
-
17" 1152x864@75Hz
i would use 1280x1024 but 60Hz gives me a headache :(
-

That's probably your monitor limiting you most graphics cards don't care about the refresh rate posibly apart from really old ones.
-
I like my monitor, I also like the fact that it was produced in 1998 and can do 1600x1200@72Hz, which I think is respectable. :)
I would LOVE my sisters Eizo Flexscan L985EX though, which is worth around $3000. :(
-
I have refresh rate problems with my monitors on linux too. Both of them are on 60hz because thats all it'll let me do. At least I can get them on my favourite resolutions.

That's odd, I've never had a problem with refresh rates.
I'm assuming you've tried editing your xorg.conf file? :scared:
-
I use some Dell Trinitron, its 100hz and 1024*768.
Its so old and its able to handle it :D of course, I had to by pass a warning and its sopposed to do 1024*768 at 85hz, but I just like triple digits and want a new moniter when this one frys :D.

um yeah.......
fuck, How on earth did I miss the vertical refresh range property...arg :nothappy:
Any way I found that extending the horizontal refresh range freed up a couple of resolutions that weren't previously available.

Well, I'm glad you figured that out. :)
-
I don't know what my refresh rate is, I use the monitor that comes glued on to the ibook.
-
Laptop LCDs are probably 60Hz, just like desktop ones.
-
Oh. It can't be that bad, though, I haven't been getting headaches and it doesn't flicker.
-
I love LCD monitors, just so long as they're worth the money. :D
-

LCDs never flicker, regardless of refresh rate.
Recently my CRT has been hurting my eyes, I fixed this by turning the brightness all the way down. Still pretty visible, and my eyes don't hurt anymore. I'd still like an LCD though - preferably, a Dell 1704FPV. <3
-
I'm using a TFT now and it's excellent I'd imadgine that it won't be long before they're cheaper than CRTs. The reason why they were so expensive is because it's hard to manufacture them because there were lots of rejects (often >50% due to bad lines and pixels) but technology is improving this process so it's become more efficient and making them cheeper.

I don't like TFT monitors AT ALL.
I would settle for LCD, for sure. :p
-
Crt :d
-
TFT is an LCD it just an enhancement to existing LCD technology. TFT stands for Thin Film Transistor, it's an LDC with millions of tiny transistors etched on the glass this speeds up the response and makes a sharper more clear picture.
So I conclude that LCDs suck shit and TFTs rule.

Hmm, all the TFT's I have seen have been way too sharp, that I couldn't even read anything on the screen.
-
My laptop screen has like a 2 second response time, built in speed blur.
-
MarathoN,
Too sharp?
How can it be too sharp?
I mean how can a sharp and clear picture be harder to read?
Pathos,
Your shitty old laptop will have a slow response as it's a crappy old LCD screen from a time before TFT was even invented.
-
Sorry, wrong choice of words, what I meant was, the colour is far too saturated, and as a result I find it difficult to read anything on screen.
-
The colour was a bit wrong on mine too, so I RTFM and adjusted the settings and now it's perfect, I couldn't be happier with my TFT monitor.

Hehe, well all these problems were encountered when using my friends computers, they are n00bs. :D
-
Color settings are important on LCDs of any type, especially TFT, not so much on the old Dual Scan ones, because color on those was usually kinda bleh.

no I've just got the cheapo dual scan model, there was a tft model available. and its not shitty .
