Title: win2000 got pwnd
Post by: Pathos on 20 October 2005, 09:45
mum decided to swap power cords round while the family computer was running.

win2000 blue screens every time before it starts booting (even safe mode).

Everyone will have to use vector Linux now.

Comes up with a Boot Device Innaccessable error. The message also references F: (which does not exist). I can mount the partition no problems from linux.

Hmm, lol I sorted out a triple boot of Windows 2000/XP and Slackware easily, just used the XP recovery console and re-added the boot partitions. :D

I've never had a problem with Windows 2000 at all, and I've been using it since 1999.

When I compared speed in general on XP and 2000, 2000 was at least 30% faster overall. :p

Great idea. Blow up the whole damn computer while you're at it. Aint no operating system on earth that fixes hardware failure.

Or human failure, for that matter.

actually that's a light machine gun...

Here is an example of a heavy machine gun...or 2...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_machine_gun

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_19_grenade_launcher

The biggest part of what it takes to be called a heavy machine gun is it requiers a crew and can only be fired from platforms.

Any machine gun which can be held, loaded and fired accurately by a single person is not a heavy machine gun.

The M60 had a crew, but was still considered a light machine gun. It's new replacement...I think the M240E is considered light as well. The M249 is a damn good automatic rifle when maintained properly...

But, back on topic...I just wanted to point that out.

I have had less problems with 2000 pro, it's speed and reliablity than any other distro except maybe 3.1

win2000 professional? cause thats a hog.

Are you comparing this with anything?

Because if you compare it with XP and Service Pack 2 (no additional software) XP is MUCH slower.

hmmm maybe I'm underestimating how shitty a celeron 2 ghz processor is.

Celerons are very shitty ... very very shitty, no matter how many Ghz they got ... I call em Celery processors .. haha ... ok that wasn't funny

Yep, my AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53ghz performs great on Windows 2000 with 512mb ram, XP is MUCH slower on the same machine, and that's with Service Pack 1

Even when I had 256mb ram Windows 2000 was fine, same with 128mb. :p

I've got a celeron 1.8, it's awful, it's got like the processing power of a Z80.

Oh come on, that's just insulting the Z80 :D

It runs like a dream with Vector Linux SOHO. Barely any difference in boot times. Probably because it spends most of the time waiting for the peripherals or something????

The Z80 is still alive and well - my TI-83 has one...

I hate my TI though, it seems to crash a bit...

Haven't used it for a while since I found Tiger's Grapher.

I like TI ... it crashes cuz you can't program :D

No, mine crashes anyway. Despite not having programs. It also screws up the screen with MirageOS... strange.
