Post by: toadlife on 21 October 2005, 21:47
Just wondering. Most computer geeks aren't into sports. I am one of the few who is.

Thank you for exposing your lack of knowledge about American football.

Ok, I'll spell it out for you. America football players do not wear shorts...or leggings. The fact that you see athletes in tight fitting uniforms as homo-erotic says more about you than me.

Rudby is very fun to play. We played it in PE in high school for a few weeks every year.

I also remember, in elementary school we would play a stripped down version of rudby called "Smear the Queer". The object of the game was simply to tackle the persion with the ball. No goals, no teams, just 10-20 kids clobbering whoever has the ball.  When the person with the ball got tackled, he would throw it up or at someone and the next guy with ball would try to evade the mob for as long as possible. The recess ladies would allways break up the game becuase we wer'nt supposed to play contact sports, but the game would always resume as soon as they turned their heads away.

At scouts We used to play murder ball, there were two mats placed at either end of the hall and we were split up into two teams. The object is to score the most goals by slamming the ball down on the opponent's mat. Yhere were no rules other than no hitting punching bitting  ect.

I'm into NFL Football, sort of.

And I do find it quite homo-erotic: Big, muscular guys piling onto each other. :D

Heh, some other games we played that was outlawed on the playground were called "Butts Up" and "Suicide". Both were sorta like handball. All of the players would line up facing a wall and throw a ball against the wall and another person would catch the ball whehn it bounced back. If someone failed to catch the ball or the ball hit them, they would have to stabnd against the wall, and person that last threw the ball got to have a free shot at them. Butts up was played wih a raquet ball and the person would have to stand facing the wall with their butt facing out. With Suicide the player had to stand against the wall and face the croud. Because of the increased danger in suicide, it was played with a larger ball (a soccer ball, or one of those red dodge balls), and the loser could use his hands to protect his nuts and face.

I did some Judo in my childhood and teen years (well, who hasn't?), did some fitness last year (but found out that I was too lazy), and did some mountain biking for a few weeks.

I'm a distance runner, but that's about it. I'm in training for the Seattle Marathon, actually.

But I actually have little tolerance for pro sports. I like to be a participant, but the second you have college/pro stuff, it moves from being an active to a passive activity. No thanks.
