I need to pick your brains

If this is not in the right forum, i apologize, but i didn't know where to put it.
I think the RAM socket on my motherboard (or something else)is going to /dev/null/ hell, but i am trying to get some input from other people to get ideas on what may be wrong.

I am so pissed off right now. My computer is only 8 months old and i have no warranty because i bought it off of Ebay(and lost the paperwork my computer came with, Go me   )
Anyhow, any ideas are appreciated since i am trying to avoid the computer shop if i can and i am out of ideas. My dad's big solution to the problem is reinstalling Windows.  :rolleyes:

What you are describing is definately not a software problem.

D/L Motherboard monitor and check your temps just to make sure. Get it from here: http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
You have to fidget with the settings a bit to get it to display the right temps. Based on the specs, it should be somewhere in the 100-120 range.

If the temps are OK, something may be wrong with your motherboard/bios (Anyone wanna back that up?). Not sure, but it sounds like it.

Post again when you check your temps

I checked the temp in the BIOS earlier today and it said 100 degrees F. I can't boot into Windows or Linux right now because it freezes mid-boot into both. But, i appreciate you posting the link to the app, when i get my computer cooperating i will put it on.

You DID make a Linux rescue disk, didn't you?  If so, use it to get into your Linux install and D/L memtest86.  It takes quite a whie t run, but it'll test your memory (RAM) to a faretheewel; EVERY possible problem is addressed; if your RAM is bad, you'll know exactly why.  Link: http://www.teresaudioo.com/memtest86/

I wanted to let you know that i stuck my RAM in another computer and it worked fine with no freezes in Windows. And i put the stick of RAM in the computer that is working in my computer and still got freezes.  I disconnected everything except my keyboard, monitor, and Harddrives and the same happens. Now, the BIOS will load, but it won't load the Operating System. The harddrives are error-free because i checked them yesterday with the manufacturer's check disk. I think it is the motherboard or the processor that is bad because i have checked everything else. By the way, thank you so much for responding to my problems.

hmmm ... if it's not the RAM it is indeed probably the processor or MB. The only time when I had similar freezing problems was when I didn't insert a stick of RAM correctly, it gave me the same freezing problems.

Good idea, however both computers use different processors(AMD and Intel). The processor seems fine, so i ordered a new motherboard and hopefully that will be that. Thanks for all help.
