School's Here Again
« on: 17 January 2006, 19:00 »
Time to break out the books and crack open a pencil, schooltime's near (or for some of us, here) once more.  I've been kinda laxadasical about my higher learning over the past year, so I'm going to have to bust some ass these next two semesters to get into Hayward in the next year.  I'm going for my MBA, with a minor in CompSci, and a hopeful CPA cert along the way.  In the interim, I'm looking into a number of local PC construction shops, and may start a side business converting analog media to digital (I've already got the requisite burners, a capture card, and a VCR - I just need a PlusDeck, a Hi-Fi, and possibly a BetaMax to finalise the notion).

So, what year is everyone going into, when do you start, what's your attitude about this whole "established learning" thing, and what are your goals / approximate timeframe for achievement?

Quote from: Education in the Republic of Ireland according to Wikipedia
The Junior Cycle builds on the education received at primary level and culminates with the Junior Certificate Examination. The Junior Certificate Examination is taken after three years of study and not before fourteen years of age.
The Transition Year is a one-year informal course which is taken by an increasing number of students. The content of this is left to the school to model on the local needs often focusing on work placement and related projects.
The Senior Cycle builds on the junior cycle and culminates with the Leaving Certificate Examination. The Leaving Certificate Examination is taken after at least two years of study after the Junior Certificate Examination
I started back in school in September, like basically everyone over here.

I'm in transition year now which is pretty easy (but pretty pointless, which annoys me sometimes). We're still doing our leaving cert subjects, as well as RELIGION, but it's a little bit better than an exam year :)

In most schools you don't have to do transition year, but in mine you do. If we were given the choice in my school I'd skip it. Any school that makes you do subjects as useless as Irish, as pointless as religion, or as DAMNIT I'M NOT LEARNING ANYTHING HERE as computers, I'll have problems with, so I'd like to get out ASAP.

I totally get what you mean. I can't say all the stuff we do is pointless, but alot of it is. Either because the subject is of no interest to me, or is plain useless (usually paired together), or because the teacher can't fucking teach, or all of the above.

Computers, religion and Irish are the only sujects I have problems with, and low and behold, they're all compulsory.

I'm fine with all the subjects I chose.

heheh ... not really ... I actually like women ... more than may be good for me ... I'm just telling the truth ... roughly 60-80% of the freshman chicks at my college are sluts or become sluts by binge drinking and then ... well you know the rest, but they don't ... hey it's college, would you have it any other way ? :D

Abusing alcohol and then having sex during college is a totally normal part of the adolescent experience.  It doesn't make you a slut.  Even if your statistics are correct, consider the fact that 100% of the male students at your school would offer sex to those drunk freshman girls.  Does that make the guys sluts?  No.  Just call a spade a spade - 60-80% of the frosh chicks at your school like to drink and fuck.  Consider yourself lucky.

... hmmmm, I see ... but I don't see anything 'normal' about binging and fucking at the same time ... and with someone you hardly know ... but then I suppose I'm just weird or uncool or both.

By 'slut' I mean relatively random, purely pleasure-seeking, exploitative use of the opposite sex (or same sex) ... there's not a whole lot wrong with it other than the fact that you will never get what you truly want that way. Like with many things the most obvious path to what you desire is (to put it lightly) not the best overall choice / will lead to your inevitable downfall ... muhahahahahahah :D

True as that may be, many people's inhibitions are significantly lowered under the influence of alcohol.  Although this ruins the performance and intelligence of sex, it greatly increases the desire to have it in the first place.  That being the main reason for drinking - you see where I'm coming from, right?  These girls subconsciously want to have sex, so they drink, because it will prevent that invisible mother sitting on their shoulder from intervening.  And at the ages 18-22, you are starting to get more responsibilities and more adult-like - the mind/body/spirit just naturally rebels.  Really, there's medical journal articles about this.  As a graduate from the number one binge drinking school in the US, I can attest to the fact that it really does happen like that.  Nothing wrong with it at all.  If you're not interested, fine.  But don't diss the girls (or guys) because they want to have some fun.
